Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 169

Chapter 169 Liquid Courage

After sending the message, Scarlett lingered at the intersection for a while longer.

Vincent didn’t reply, so she didn’t press further.

But the thought lingered-their divorce had truly been dragging on for too long.

Since he was at the hospital with Vanessa that day, she decided she would speak to him about the divorce face-to-face the next day.

Vanessa’s earlier words still weighed heavily on her. Afraid her family would notice her low spirits if she returned to the Theron Manor, she called Claire instead.

Claire immediately invited her over. After getting the address, Scarlett drove straight there.

When she arrived, Claire had already laid out the spread-several large boxes of barbecue skewers and a case of ice-cold beer.

It had been years since the two friends had sat down like this-just the two of them, drinking and talking freely.

After finishing her first bottle, Scarlett’s eyes grew red-rimmed as she said quietly, “I’m getting a divorce.”

Claire opened another beer and handed it to her. “Good for you! Stay away from trash men and embrace a happier life.”

Scarlett let out a soft, self-mocking laugh. “But I’d be lying if I said it didn’t still hurt.”

Claire clinked her bottle gently against Scarlett’s. “You’re handling it better than I expected. The old you would’ve been crying your eyes out by now.”

Scarlett had to smile at that. “You’re right. Let’s just treat it like a dog bite. From now on, I’m putting myself first.”

Claire downed her entire bottle in one go. Watching her drink so fiercely, Scarlett couldn’t help asking with concern, “What about Elias? Has he contacted you?”

Claire shrugged indifferently. “Not a word. He’s probably waiting for me to come crawling back like a lost puppy. But Scarlett… I’ve finally woken up.”

Hearing that, Scarlett felt a little more at ease, and her mood lifted slightly.

They drank late into the night, talking about everything and nothing.

After several rounds, Claire rolled over and fumbled for Scarlett’s phone. Finding it, she pushed it into her hand. “Call Vincent. Right now. Tell him you want a divorce-that you don’t want him anymore.”

Scarlett shook her head. “Let’s wait till tomorrow. I’ll tell him in person.”

But Claire was insistent. “Do it now. Be firm. Tell him you’re done.”

Scarlett knew Claire was drunk, but on second thought, she didn’t resist the idea.

Taking the phone, she dialed Vincent’s number.

After two rings, someone picked up-but it was Sabrina’s voice that answered. “Hello, who is this?”

Hearing her, Scarlett froze for a second, then asked, “Where’s Vincent?”

Recognizing Scarlett’s voice, Sabrina replied flatly, “Vincent is helping me wash my If there’s something you need, you can tell me, and I’ll pass it along.”

underwear.

Scarlett couldn’t hold back a cold, derisive laugh. “That won’t be necessary.”

The call was on speaker. Claire heard Sabrina’s voice too and immediately snatched the phone. “Ms. Monroe,” she said sharply, “what you’re so desperately trying to snatch is nothing but the trash Scarlett has decided to throw away. Congratulations on your acquisition. Hold onto it tight—and make sure it doesn’t dirty anyone else’s space again.”

Without waiting for a reply, she ended the call.

Scarlett stared at Claire for a long moment, then finally gave a shaky thumbs-up. “That’s my girl.”

Claire took another swig of beer and sprawled lazily across the sofa. “After being doormats for so many years… it feels good to finally grow a backbone.”

Scarlett leaned back against the cushions and sighed softly. “Yeah. New chapter-no more being a pushover.”

Unsurprisingly, they both ended up drunk that night.

The next day, Scarlett forced herself to go to the hospital for her shift.

That afternoon, after her work was done, she made up her mind to go to Ravenshade Villa that evening and discuss the divorce with Vincent in person.

When she returned to Ravenshade Villa that night, the living room was empty-no sign of Vanessa, Vincent, or Sabrina. Only Maria and Lily were there.

Seeing Scarlett, Lily quickly stepped forward. “Mrs. Stewart?”

But her expression was complicated-a mix of surprise and unease.

Maria had never met Scarlett before, but hearing Lily address her as “Mrs. Stewart”, she understood immediately who she was.

“Lily,” Maria said, without a hint of courtesy, “I want some soup. Make me a bowl.”

“Alright,” Lily replied reluctantly. Vincent had instructed her to take good care of Maria, after

all.

One look at Maria told Scarlett she wasn’t a kind woman. The gaze she directed at Scarlett was sharp and venomous.

The moment Lily stepped into the kitchen, Maria dropped all pretense of politeness. “Mrs. Stewart? What kind of Mrs. Stewart? Still squatting in the lavatory but not doing your business?”

Her tone made it clear she knew Sabrina was the other woman-and she wasn’t the least bit ashamed. If anything, she seemed proud.

Even though Maria was a patient, Scarlett had no intention of tolerating her disrespect. She smiled coolly, her voice laced with sarcasm. “Worrying so much about other people’s business? What’s wrong-not enough going on in your own life to keep you occupied?”
