Upon hearing Sabrina’s urgent words, Vincent’s brow furrowed in concern. “Okay, I’ll be right back,” he replied immediately.

After hanging up, he returned to the Theron family’s table with an apologetic expression. “Henry, Diana, I have some urgent matters to handle. Please let me take care of the bill for tonight’s dinner.”

From start to finish, the Therons avoided making eye contact with him.

Though his attitude remained respectful, no one acknowledged his

presence.

Vincent didn’t press further. Turning to Scarlett, he spoke gently, “For your birthday, I’ll make it up to you when I’m free. I have to go now.”

Scarlett looked up at him, her voice even. “It’s not necessary.”

Vincent’s frown deepened. “Be reasonable.”

She wanted to say more, but he had already turned and was heading toward the host stand, clearly intending to settle the bill.

Just then, Damian called out from nearby, “Mr. Stewart, wait a moment.”

Vincent paused.

With a faint, confident smile, Damian continued, “I just acquired this restaurant. There’s no need for you to pay, Mr. Stewart. This meal is on me.”

Hearing this, Vincent offered no further response and quickly left the restaurant.

Scarlett resumed distributing the cake, then handed out forks to everyone.

Diana, her okay?”

eyes red-rimmed with heartache for her daughter, asked softly, “Scarlett, are you

Scarlett shrugged with practiced indifference. “I’m used to it.”

She knew her family was worried, but the truth was, she didn’t feel as deeply affected as she once would have.

Hoping to lighten the mood, she said, “Let’s eat the cake.”

Clara, with frosting smeared around her mouth, declared with childish sincerity, “Auntie, you’re so nice. You’ll definitely meet a good person, I will have a very, very, very good uncle someday.”

Scarlett couldn’t help but smile at Clara’s innocent words.

Hearing this, Damian leaned toward Clara and asked with mock seriousness, “Clara, what do

think of me? How am I?”

Clara bit her fork, thinking carefully before replying, “Sir, you are good-looking, but good- looking people can be risky too.”

Damian’s smile widened. “But I’m different.”

Clara nodded thoughtfully. “Then do

your best.”

Listening to their exchange, Scarlett could feel the low pressure emanating from Nathan beside her.

After a moment’s hesitation, she gently clarified to Clara, “Clara, Damian and I are just friends.”

Clara let out a disappointed “Ah,” then sighed, “Oh, alright then.”

Damian turned to Scarlett and lowered his voice beside her ear. “But that might not be the case in the future.”

Only Scarlett heard him. With her family present, she chose not to respond.

After finishing the cake, the dinner party came to a close.

Clara, exhausted from the excitement, had fallen asleep on Nathan’s shoulder.

As the family prepared to leave the restaurant, Damian saw them off.

Only Scarlett and Violet hadn’t drunk alcohol, so they were responsible for driving.

Violet drove off first. Just as Scarlett was about to get into her car, Damian suddenly grabbed her arm and pulled her into an embrace.

Startled, Scarlett pushed against him. “Damian, what are you doing now?”

He pressed her against the car door, trapping her between his chest and the vehicle. Leaning close, his voice was husky from the alcohol. “Baby, happy birthday.”

Scarlett pushed him firmly. “Damian, that’s enough. Stop this act.”

He loomed over her, his alcohol-laced breath warm against her skin. “Baby, I prepared a surprise for you in your room. I hope you’ll like it when you see it.”

When she entered the living room, Nathan and Violet were still sitting on the sofa-it seemed they had been waiting for her.

Feeling slightly apprehensive, she called out timidly, “Nathan, Violet.”

Nathan turned and fixed her with a stern look. “Come here. I have questions for you.”

His tone left no room for argument; it was clearly not going to be a pleasant conversation.

Since childhood, Scarlett had always been somewhat intimidated by her brother.

Even though she knew he loved her deeply, that authoritative aura of his never failed to make her nervous.

She walked over and stood in front of the coffee table. Violet gestured for her to sit, but Nathan spoke first, “Has the divorce matter not been settled yet?”

Scarlett replied, “Still waiting for Vincent to sign.”

Nathan’s frown deepened. “Is he unwilling to sign? Or is there an issue with the asset division?”

Truthfully, Scarlett herself didn’t know why Vincent was delaying.

She shook her head, meeting Nathan’s gaze. “I don’t know either. He hasn’t discussed it with me yet.”

Nathan’s expression darkened, his voice cold and firm. “Since you’ve decided to divorce, don’t drag your feet.”
