Scarlett’s reply was crisp and decisive. “I won’t fight you for custody of Vanessa. She can stay with you from now on.”
Vincent frowned, his eyes clouded with confusion. “Are you sure you’ve thought this through?”
Scarlett nodded firmly. “Yes.”
Seeing she wasn’t joking, Vincent fell silent for a moment before responding, “Then allow me some time to consider. I need to go back and ask for Vanessa’s opinion.”
Noticing that Vincent showed not a hint of wanting her to stay, Scarlett felt an unexpected pang in her heart.
Perhaps he had been waiting for this day all along.
They shared a child; the divorce couldn’t be decided by just the two of them.
But Scarlett believed Vanessa would undoubtedly approve.
So, she agreed to Vincent’s suggestion. “Is one day enough?”
Vincent had never seen such resolute determination in Scarlett’s eyes before.
He gazed at her for a long moment before finally giving a quiet “Hmm.”
Seeing his agreement, Scarlett reached for the car door handle. “Then we’ll contact each other tomorrow evening.”
With that, she stepped out of the car.
Standing by the roadside, she took a moment to collect herself before preparing to leave.
But just then, the passenger side window rolled down. Vincent looked out at her. “The flowers and gift are for you. Take them with you.”
Hearing this, Scarlett’s eyes stung briefly, but she quickly composed herself.
When she turned back to Vincent, she offered a faint, distant smile. “No need. I’m past the time when I needed those things.”
With that, she walked away without a trace of hesitation.
Five years, five birthdays. Each time, Scarlett had secretly hoped Vincent would prepare her birthday with flowers or a gift. And each time, she had been disappointed.

In truth, even a simple “Happy Birthday” from him would have meant something. But now, none of it mattered anymore.
Watching Scarlett’s resolute retreating figure, Vincent felt strangely disoriented.
His mind drifted to memories of the Scarlett who always greeted him with a warm smile, took care of him meticulously, and showed endless patience and tenderness toward their daughter.
Now, only cold detachment remained.
Vincent couldn’t quite identify what he was feeling. He didn’t know whether he was willing to divorce or not.
He only thought, since Scarlett had brought it up, he couldn’t very well refuse.
After returning to Ravenshade Villa, he found Vanessa already washed and tucked into bed.
Vincent knocked softly outside her door. “Vanessa, can I come in?”
Vanessa’s cheerful voice replied, “Daddy, come in!”
When he entered, she was watching cartoons on her tablet.
She sat up eagerly, calling out, “Daddy!”
Vincent sat on the edge of the bed, stroking her hair affectionately. “Sleepy?”
Vanessa shook her head. “Daddy, I’m not sleepy.”
He gently pinched her nose. “Then I want to talk to you about something.”
Vanessa nodded brightly. “Okay, Daddy, go ahead.”
Looking at Vanessa’s innocent, cheerful face, Vincent felt a dull ache in his chest.
On the drive back, he had already rehearsed how to broach the subject.
But now, faced with her trusting gaze, he found himself at a loss for words.
Noticing his hesitation, Vanessa hugged his arm. “Daddy, what’s wrong?”
Vincent looked down at her for a long moment. Finally, steeling himself, he asked, “If Daddy and Mommy live separately from now on, and you see Mommy less and less, would you be sad?”
Vanessa shook her head without hesitation. “No. Even if I never saw her again, I wouldn’t be sad.

I just need you and Sabrina to be good to me.”
Hearing this, Vincent fell silent.

The topic he had struggled to bring up turned out to be something his daughter didn’t mind at all.
But since she seemed unaffected, he didn’t press further.
After leaving Vanessa’s room, Vincent sent a message to Scarlett. “I’ve spoken with Vanessa. Regarding the divorce agreement, I’ll have my lawyer handle it.”
Within minutes, Scarlett replied. “Okay.”
Staring at that single, cold word, Vincent sank into deep thought.
Was this really the same Scarlett who had loved him so deeply and cherished Vanessa so dearly? Was she truly willing to let go of their marriage so easily?

The next day, after her shift ended, Scarlett ran into Nolan at the hospital entrance and she also spotted Vincent’s car parked nearby.
Seeing her come out, Nolan approached and asked, “Have dinner together?”
Scarlett offered a light smile. “I need to discuss the divorce with Vincent later. I’ll treat you next time.”
Hearing this, Nolan was visibly startled, but a subtle warmth flickered in his eyes. “Okay,” he said gently.
