Chapter 195 The Missing Certificates
Fin bed
Nolan selected another restaurant nearby. Once they were seated, he let Scarlett take charge of ordering.
After she finished choosing the dishes, Scarlett looked up at him with concern. “Nolan, Sabrina is Vincent’s most treasured person. He wouldn’t allow her to suffer even the slightest inconvenience. You should really be more careful…”
Before she could finish, Nolan gently interrupted, “Scarlett, all I see are two individuals with questionable character. As for my words, I have a clear conscience. The path of medicine isn’t meant for everyone.”
Scarlett understood Nolan was defending her, but she couldn’t help worrying about his situation. Just as Vincent had said—the higher you stand, the harder you might fall.
Nolan wasn’t wrong in his stance, so Scarlett didn’t feel she could press the matter further.
When their meals arrived, Nolan passed her a fork and knife with a friendly nod.
As they ate, Nolan asked considerately, “The exam is coming up soon. How are your preparations going?”
Scarlett nodded. “I’m ready.”
She had already prepared for these exams years ago, before her pregnancy. Reviewing the material now didn’t feel particularly difficult for her.
Seeing her confidence, a slight smile touched the corner of Nolan’s mouth. He then asked, “Are you planning to pursue a professional master’s degree or an academic one?”
“Academic, I think,” Scarlett replied. “If everything goes smoothly, I should be able to finish my Ph.D. by thirty-three. Though I suppose I’ll be considered an old maid by then.” She had meant it as a light-hearted joke.
But Nolan took it seriously. “Not old at all. You’ve always been beautiful.”
When he finished speaking, Scarlett looked up and noticed the tips of his ears had turned bright red.
“Nolan, you…” she began.
Nolan, seemingly anxious about what she might say, quickly changed the subject. “Try this fish. I heard it’s very fresh.”
“Thank you, Nolan,” Scarlett said softly.

Chapter 195 The Missing Certificates
After dinner, they took a brief walk together before Scarlett drove home.
Arriving back, she saw it was still early and didn’t consider calling Vincent.
While scrolling through short videos, she kept getting clips from Sabrina’s account, even after repeatedly selecting “Not Interested”.
In one video, Sabrina didn’t show Vincent’s face-only the lower half of his body. Though she had added a voiceover, Vincent’s voice was still faintly audible in the background, saying, “Yes, the Ph.D. research topic,” followed by, “Right, I need it ASAP.”
Sabrina didn’t need to flaunt it intentionally; Scarlett knew Vincent was willing to move mountains for her. While choosing a doctoral topic was indeed challenging, it wasn’t impossible to the point where only Nolan could provide the answer.
Scarlett clicked “Not Interested” once more. After watching a few more videos, her phone rang -it was Vincent.
She answered, and he said, “I couldn’t find the marriage certificates.”
Scarlett sat straight up in bed. “How is that possible?”
“They’re definitely not here,” Vincent confirmed.
Scarlett frowned deeply. “Then I’ll go check Oakland Villa.”
After hanging up, she changed into outdoor clothes and left.
At Oakland Villa, she went upstairs and searched thoroughly but still couldn’t find them.
Freya, hearing the noise, came upstairs to check. Seeing it was Scarlett, she asked, “What are you looking for, Mrs. Stewart?”
Feeling increasingly frustrated, Scarlett asked Freya directly, “Have you seen my and Vincent’s marriage certificates?”
Freya shook her head. “Mrs. Stewart, those are your private belongings. I wouldn’t dare touch them.”
Scarlett sighed in defeat. “I see.”
After a moment’s thought, she called Vincent. He seemed to be in the middle of something, as his line was busy.
He’s probably dealing with Sabrina’s research topic issue. She didn’t call repeatedly, choosing to wait a few minutes instead. Soon, Vincent called back.

Finished
When she answered, she said firmly, “Vincent, come to Oakland Villa.”
He thought for a moment. “Okay, but it will be late.”
“I’ll be gone by ten if you’re not here,” Scarlett replied. Then, without waiting for his response, she hung up.
As time passed, it neared ten o’clock. Scarlett glanced toward the entrance outside the main hall.
He probably isn’t coming tonight.
Just as she stood up, the sound of a car horn came from outside. Soon after, Vincent walked in.
Seeing Scarlett holding her jacket, ready to leave, Vincent paused slightly before asking, “Did you find the certificates?”
Scarlett shook her head. “No.”
A shadow crossed Vincent’s features. He looked at Scarlett intently. “Ever since we got married, you’ve been handling all matters, big and small, in the household. Shouldn’t the marriage certificates have been in your care too?”
Hearing his accusatory tone, Scarlett let out a bitter laugh. “From the moment we married, my entire focus has been on Vanessa. When would I have had the mind to worry about where the marriage certificates were?”
Seeing her anger, Vincent’s tone remained flat. “I only saw the marriage certificates once, on the day we registered. Never saw them after that.”
Scarlett felt utterly exhausted, mentally and physically. This divorce process was giving her a headache. Feeling completely helpless, she finally asked Vincent, “Then what should we do
now?”
