Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 205

Chapter 205 Fragile Trust

Then, she felt her body moving rhythmically; someone was carrying her while walking.

At the same time, a voice filled with complex emotions sounded near her ear. It carried resentment, guilt, heartache, and reluctance…

“Why is it that whenever you’re with him, you end up like this? I was gone for less than an hour, and you’re hurt again. If you had chosen to marry me back then, I would never have let you face any danger…”

When Scarlett opened her eyes again, the sharp scent of antiseptic filled her nostrils.

A throbbing pain pulsed through her arm, and she furrowed her brows slightly.

Memories came flooding back, reminding her of what had happened right before she lost consciousness.

Claire was sitting by the bed. Seeing Scarlett open her eyes, she asked with relief, “Scarlett, you’re awake?”

Scarlett parted her lips, her voice hoarse. “Yeah.”

Claire grabbed Scarlett’s hand, tears welling in her eyes. “You have no idea how scared I was.”

Scarlett rubbed the back of Claire’s hand with her thumb. “I’m okay now.”

After composing herself, Claire finally said, “It was Damian who brought you here.”

Scarlett had already guessed it would be him.

She wasn’t sure whether his kindness was genuine or performative, but at that banquet, it seemed like he was the only one who would come to her aid.

After a moment’s thought, Scarlett asked, “Where is he now?”

Claire, who was peeling an apple, replied, “He left after the doctor gave the diagnosis. A woman came to pick him up.”

Hearing this, Scarlett just gave a quiet, noncommittal, “Hmm.”

Claire cut a small piece of the peeled apple and handed it to Scarlett. “I really didn’t expect this. Just earlier, I was saying we should stay away from men like him, and then right after, he helps

you out.”

Scarlett smiled faintly without saying much more.

Claire’s train of thought jumped around. After talking about Damian, she started cursing Vincent. “That bastard really doesn’t care about you at all. You were bitten like that, and he was only worried about Vanessa.”

Scarlett curved her lips into a faint smile. “He’s always been like that.”

Claire was furious, but worried about upsetting Scarlett, she held back.

After Scarlett finished the apple, Violet and Nathan arrived at the hospital.

After Scarlett fainted, Claire had received a call from Nathan. Claire told him everything, and they said they were coming over.

The injection had been administered, the wound cleaned, and Scarlett didn’t need to stay in the hospital, so Violet suggested they head back.

Scarlett was worried about Claire, so she asked Nathan to take Claire home first.

After dropping off Claire, the family returned to Theron Manor.

It was already past midnight when they arrived.

When Scarlett entered her bedroom, she noticed the bed sheets, which had been perfectly smooth without a single wrinkle when she left that morning, were now rumpled.

She sat down and reached out to touch the sheets, finding them still warm.

Scarlett looked toward the window. It was half-open, the late autumn night breeze drifting in, lifting a corner of the curtain.

Mixed with the wind, Scarlett thought she could catch a faint trace of Damian’s cologne.

She guessed Damian had been in her bedroom, not long before she returned.

Scarlett got up and went to the window. She looked left and right but didn’t see any sign of him.

So, she reached out and closed the window.

Just as she shut it, her phone rang.

Returning to the bedside, she picked up her phone and saw it was Vincent calling.

Hesitating for a second, she answered anyway.

“Hello.” Her voice was cold and sounded weak.

It was quiet on Vincent’s end. “Did they take care of your wound?” he asked, concern in his voice.

Hearing his belated concern sent a sharp pang through her heart, but her face remained expressionless as she replied, “Yes, it’s handled.”

Vincent seemed to let out a sigh of relief. “Good, that’s good.”

Scarlett thought for a moment, then asked him, “What about Vanessa? Is her wound taken care of too?”

Vincent answered, “Yes, she’s already back from the hospital.”

“Okay.” As soon as she said that, she moved to hang up.

Vincent, seeming to sense her intention, quickly called out, “Scarlett, wait a moment.”

Scarlett paused her finger over the “end call” button. “Is there something else?”

Vincent’s voice was raspy as he said, “Damian and I have conflicting business interests. I don’t want you getting close to him.”

His tone was domineering, like he was giving her an order.

Hearing his words, a wave of irritation rose instantly within her. She let out a cold, dismissive snort. “Vincent, worry about yourself.”

With that, she directly ended the call.

On his end, Vincent listened to the dial tone, his face darkening.

Behind him, Vanessa was lying in bed. She blinked her big, round eyes at Vincent’s back and called out, “Daddy?”
