Chapter 208 Small Steps Closer
When he ignored her, Scarlett tried again, “Damian?”
Still no response came from him.

Scarlett knew he was doing it intentionally, and she knew he could hear her perfectly well.
So she continued calmly, “Please don’t send things to Theron Manor anymore. I have no use for those items.”
Damian remained silent. No matter what Scarlett said, he wouldn’t respond.
His attitude even made Scarlett doubt for a moment whether it had really been him who took her to the hospital. But she knew Claire wouldn’t lie to her.
She didn’t understand what kind of mood Damian was in, nor did she plan to press the matter. They moved in different circles with little connection anyway. If he wanted to ignore her, perhaps that was for the best.
Worried Clara might get hurt, Scarlett walked over to where the children were playing.
As soon as she moved, Damian followed her.
After tiring themselves out on the bouncy castle, Clara came over to Scarlett asking for water.
Damian, inexperienced with children, hadn’t brought any. Fortunately, Scarlett had packed an extra bottle, which she offered to Eric.
After drinking her water, Clara went and took Damian’s hand. “Mr. Langley, will you come on the roller coaster with me? Auntie’s hand is hurt; she can’t go with me yet.”
Damian smiled gently and agreed, “Of course.”
Holding his hand, Clara happily pulled him toward the large roller coaster.
The two of them boarded the ride, with Damian securing Clara safely beside him.
Eric didn’t join them, claiming he was afraid of heights. Clara called him a scaredy-cat, but he still refused.
Scarlett sat with Eric on a bench in the shade, using her phone to capture her niece’s joyful
moments.
On the ride, Clara wasn’t just excited; she turned serious and asked Damian, “Mr. Langley, did you come here to see my auntie?”

Damian replied, “Yes, but don’t tell your auntie. She’s still upset with me.”
It wasn’t really Scarlett who was angry; it was Damian himself who was sulking, still stewing over how Scarlett had defended Vincent that day.
Clara held onto the safety bar in front of her, looking down at the view below. She said curiously, “But Auntic is usually very easygoing. If she’s upset with you, you must have done something not very nice to make her angry.”
Damian fell silent at her words, thinking. After a few seconds, he said, “You’re right. It’s my fault for not… being persistent enough.”
His words were vague, and Clara didn’t fully understand, but she adopted a mature tone, “Then you should try harder! Our teacher says we need to keep trying and never give up, so we can grow up to be responsible adults.”
Damian was amused. He ruffled her hair and said, “Understood. I will definitely keep trying.”
Clara lifted her chin proudly. “My auntie is very popular, you know. Before, there was another handsome gentleman who brought her home.”
This got a reaction from Damian. “What?”
Clara thought for a moment. “Yeah, Mr. Huntley. He’s also very good-looking, and Grandpa and Grandma liked him a lot.”
Damian knew she was talking about Nolan. A wave of irritation washed over him, but there wasn’t much he could do about it. He lowered his voice and asked Clara, “Then let me ask you, who is more handsome, Nolan or me?”
Clara considered it seriously. “You’re both very
Damian pressed, “But if you had to choose one?”
handsome.”
Clara lowered her voice too. “I won’t choose. I just want Auntie to be happy. When she was with my uncle, she never smiled. I don’t like my uncle. I want Auntie to have someone who can make her happy every day.”
Clara’s words struck a chord deep within Damian, touching a nerve that was already sensitive.
He looked down toward the shaded area. Scarlett and Eric were sitting on a bench. They seemed to be engaged in conversation, and a faint smile appeared on Scarlett’s face. It wasn’t a broad smile, but Damian saw it clearly. She was smiling.
Gazing in Scarlett’s direction, Damian said to Clara with utmost seriousness, “Clara, I will become the person who can make your auntie happy.”

Under the tree, Scarlett handed the water bottle to Eric. He took a sip, then looked up at her and said, “Ms. Theron, Vanessa, Clara, and I are all classmates. We attend the same kindergarten.”
Scarlett had already guessed as much. She gave him a gentle smile and then asked, “Why did you and Damian decide to come to this theme park today?”
She couldn’t help but feel a little suspicious about this “coincidental” meeting.
As Eric handed the water bottle back to Scarlett, he replied, “My dad went on a business trip today. Dad asked Mr. Langley to take me out to play.”
Listening to his explanation, Scarlett nodded in understanding. “Oh, I see.”
It seemed she had been overthinking it. Maybe their meeting really was just a coincidence.
Soon, the ride came to a stop, and Damian brought Clara down.
Seeing them return, Eric stood up, and Scarlett rose to her feet as well.
