With that, Scarlett stood up and looked toward Damian, who stood a short distance away. “Mr. Langley, we’re heading back now. See you next time.”

Damian had already let go of his earlier frustration, but for some reason, when Scarlett spoke to him, he simply couldn’t bring himself to respond. Like now–he truly wanted to say “See you next time“, but his lips felt sealed, and the words refused to come out.

Scarlett knew he wouldn’t answer her, so she didn’t press further. She simply took Clara’s hand, turned, and left.

After they were gone, Damian smacked his own forehead in frustration.

Finally, he looked down at Eric and said discontentedly, “So unreliable.”

Eric shot back, “Well, why didn’t you say anything? It’s not like Ms. Theron is scary.”

Damian was annoyed with him too. “And is Clara scary?”

Eric, unable to win the argument, huffed, “Hmph! I’m telling my dad you’re bullying me.”

After leading Clara into the living room, Scarlett said to her, “Clara, go upstairs and play for a bit. I need to talk to your uncle for a moment.”

Clara was reluctant, but Scarlett insisted, so she had to give in.

Once Clara was upstairs, Scarlett walked over to Vincent. “Vincent, what are you doing here?” she asked, her tone unfriendly, her expression clearly displeased.

Vincent put his phone down. He spoke calmly, as if it were the most natural thing. “Grandpa asked me to come pick you up.”

Scarlett turned her face away from him, her voice cold. “That won’t be necessary. I’m not going back with you tonight.”

Vincent looked at her profile, feeling a sudden sense of disorientation. After a moment’s pause, he gave a faint, wry smile. “I found the marriage certificates.”

As he expected, this got a reaction from her.

She turned back to him, asking eagerly, “Where are they?”

He could see the hope in her eyes, but he felt no joy himself. The Scarlett who had once loved him so deeply seemed to be truly gone.

After a silence, he replied, “Come back to Stewart Manor with me, and I’ll tell you.”

Hearing his conditional exchange, anger flared within her. “Vincent, what exactly are you trying to do?” she demanded, her voice rising.

Vincent met her furious gaze directly and repeated his demand. “Come back to Stewart Manor with me.”

Scarlett took a deep breath. “Fine. I’ll go with you.”

Having the marriage certificates would make the divorce process much simpler.

Seeing her agree, Vincent finally stood up.

As the two prepared to leave together, Clara came rushing down the stairs.

“Bad Uncle! Where are you taking my auntie this time?” Clara planted herself in front of Vincent, blocking his way.

Vincent looked down at Clara, then bent down to her level. He reached out to pat her head.

But Clara swatted his hand away angrily. “Don’t touch me!”

Vincent pressed his lips together, silently retracting his hand. His tone was gentle. “I’m just taking Auntie to Grandpa’s house.”

Hearing this, Clara refused outright. “No! This is Auntie’s home.”

Clara didn’t understand his “logic“. She just rebutted him with firm, childlike conviction. “That’s not true at all! Mom and Dad said Auntie is a Theron. As long as Auntie wants to come back, Theron Manor will always be her home. So her home is here, not with you!”

Vincent’s face darkened at her words. He looked at Clara with a complicated gaze, unsure how to respond.

Clara was protecting her aunt because she loved her. What right did he, as the uncle, have to criticize a child for saying that?

Seeing Vincent silent, Clara added, “I won’t let you take Auntie away.”

Standing to the side, Scarlett watched Clara’s fierce protectiveness, and her eyes welled up despite herself.
