Hearing his father’s voice, Eric immediately jumped up from the couch. “Daddy, you’re back!” he cheered happily.
Felix Wilson walked over and scooped up his son. “What’s going on? Did Damian upset you again?”
Before Eric could respond, Damian cut in first, “Your son takes after you. Completely shameless.”
Felix didn’t take offense; instead, he offered a faint smile. He sat down on the sofa with Eric in his arms and looked at Damian. “I’d say he probably takes after you more.” His words subtly implied Damian was the shameless one.
Damian caught the implication. He raised an eyebrow, feigning nonchalance. “I certainly didn’t teach him to be so persistent in chasing after little girls.”
Felix, while adjusting his son’s collar, responded, “And what else? Did you teach him anything useful?”
He then turned his full attention to Damian. His gaze was calm yet penetrating, making Damian feel uncomfortably exposed.
Shifting under the stare, Damian averted his eyes. “You’re a lawyer. I’m not getting into a debate with you.”
With that, he stood up. “I’m heading out. Don’t miss me too much.”
Felix made no move to stop him, simply looking down at Eric. “Daddy will take you to the park to paint an autumn landscape.”
Hearing this, Damian immediately turned back. “Painting autumn?” he asked, intrigued.
Felix looked up at him. “It’s Eric’s kindergarten assignment. Due tomorrow.”
Damian’s eyes lit up with an idea. The next moment, he declared, “Then have the kindergarten organize an autumn field trip for next week. I’ll take Eric.”
Felix naturally understood what mischief Damian was plotting. He said, somewhat exasperated, “You…”
Damian cut him off. “It’s settled then. You arrange it. Don’t worry, I won’t lead your son astray.” He grinned mischievously as he spoke, making Felix feel an inexplicable urge to smack him.
But given their years of deep friendship, Felix trusted Damian’s character. His tongue might be

sharp, but he’d never truly done anything dishonorable.
Damian left Felix’s place and headed to the parking garage.
Once in his car, he didn’t start the engine immediately.

He took out his phone, scrolling through his message history with Scarlett. In the text box, he typed and deleted messages repeatedly.
In the end, he didn’t send a single one.
His eyes darted around, and a mischievous idea popped into his head.
He found a very realistic photo of an injured finger online, saved it, and then posted it to his social media feed.
“Posting to ask: What should I do with a finger injury like this?” he wrote.
The photo showed a finger covered in blood, with a deep, long gash clearly visible.
He set the post to be visible to Scarlett only.
After posting, he locked his phone screen and tossed it onto the passenger seat.
He turned on some music, humming and tapping the steering wheel, trying to mask the restlessness inside.
After waiting several minutes, his phone screen finally lit up–a notification had come in.
He practically lunged for the passenger seat, grabbing the phone.
But after unlocking the screen, there was only one notification–a promotional alert. It wasn’t the concerned message from Scarlett he’d hoped for.
The smile froze on his face, and he threw the phone aside again.
But then he thought, what if Scarlett had commented on his post?
So, he grabbed the phone again and checked his notifications. Sure enough, there was a red indicator.
Damian clicked on it immediately, but his smile vanished once more.
The notification showed–A friend liked your post.
Furious, Damian immediately removed that friend from his contacts.

He held his phone, waiting and watching, but no message or comment came from Scarlett.
Finally, Damian gave up. He hit the steering wheel hard in frustration and muttered discontentedly, “Scarlett, you’re so heartless. You must have ice running through your veins.”
ન
He was genuinely upset. Sure, he’d said something about her defending Vincent, but did that mean she didn’t care if he lived or died?
If Vincent had posted something like this, Scarlett would probably have blown up his phone with calls by now.
But when he was hurt, she didn’t offer a single word of concern.

At Theron Manor, Scarlett was putting Clara’s hair up in a ponytail. Just as she finished, she sneezed twice involuntarily.
Clara, admiring herself in the mirror, swung her little legs and took a bite of her custard tart. She smiled sweetly. “Auntie is so good at this! It looks just as nice as when Mommy does it.”
Scarlett touched Clara’s ponytail and said without thinking, “Vanessa really likes this hairstyle too. I always used to do it for her…”
Her voice trailed off, her mood sinking.
Clara saw her aunt’s sad expression in the mirror and quickly said, “Auntie is so wonderful. It’s Vanessa who doesn’t know how to appreciate you. She’ll regret it someday.”
