He let out two sharp, mocking laughs before his face hardened completely. The Theron family really has no shame. You’re just as cheap as Violet.”

The contempt in his eyes was unmistakable.

His words ignited a fire in Scarlett. What did you just say?she demanded, her voice rising.

Daniel kept his hands in his pockets, oozing condescension. I said, you and Violet are both cheap. No selfrespect whatsoever.

He raised an eyebrow, taunting her further. Did you hear me clearly that time? If not, I can—

Before he could finish, Scarlett’s hand shot out, landing a hard slap across his face. Shut your mouth!

Daniel’s head snapped to the side from the impact. He worked his jaw, feeling the sting, then touched the corner of his mouthhis fingers came away stained with blood.

Scarlett’s palm throbbed; she’d put all her strength into that strike.

Her voice was low and unwavering. You can insult me all you want. But you don’t get to talk about Violet like that. You have no right.”

Daniel wiped the blood from his lip with his thumb, staring at the crimson smear.

After a long pause, he suddenly laughed.

When he looked back at Scarlett, his tone dripped with sarcasm. No shame? She took her clothes off right in front of me, begging me to sleep with her. Tell me, is that shameful or not?

Hearing him slander Violet so viciously, Scarlett fired back, That’s a lie! Violet would never do such a thing!

Daniel’s laughter grew louder. Is that so?

Scarlett shot back, Stop making things up. Do you really think I’d believe you?

Ignoring her question, Daniel shifted gears. A married woman, no matter how beautiful, is just secondhand goods. It’s like driving on a clear roadno challenge, no feeling at all. What a waste of a pretty face. So boring.”

Scarlett couldn’t stand to hear any more. She tried to slap him again, but this time he was

Daniel, stop spewing nonsense! Violet is nothing like that!

He merely shrugged, unconcerned, and let out a low chuckle. Nonsense? More like I was tasting Violet’s—

He deliberately left the crude word unspoken, but Scarlett knew exactly what he meant.

She was so furious she could barely breathe, her chest rising and falling rapidly.

She began lashing out blindlykicking, hitting, even trying to headbutt him.

Daniel wasn’t about to let her land another blow. With a powerful shove, he sent her stumbling backward onto the hard floor.

Scarlett looked up at him from the ground, her eyes blazing. She heard him say, Scarlett, I’m advising you to step aside for Sabrina. That position was never meant for you.”

With that, Daniel turned and walked away, leaving her there alone.

Scarlett remained on the floor. The wound from the dog bite had reopened; she could feel warm blood seeping through her clothes.

She didn’t care about her own injury, but Daniel’s vile words about Violet filled her with a deep, sorrowful anger.

Yet confronting Daniel felt like an ant trying to shake a treeutterly futile.

Just then, her phone rang.

It had fallen beside her. She glanced over and saw Vincent’s name flashing on the screen.

She didn’t want to answer, but at the last moment, she picked up.

Vincent didn’t ask where she was. His tone was detached. You can find your own way back later. Lucy and the others are here at the hospital. I’ve already leftsomething came up.

Scarlett knew he was going back to Vanessa and Sabrina. But what could she say?

No words came out.

Remembering Daniel’s viciousness, she was about to speak up when the line went dead- Vincent had ended the call.

She didn’t call back. Silently, she put her phone away and straightened her clothes.

Once she was sure nothing looked out of place, she left the hospital.

When she arrived at Theron Manor, she found Violet waiting in the living room, as if expecting her or Nathan.

Thinking of Daniel’s words, her heart ached.

Violet was a good person. Scarlett refused to believe a word Daniel said.

Standing outside the hall, she took a couple of deep breaths before walking in.

Hearing footsteps, Violet looked up. Seeing it was Scarlett, she smiled warmly. Scarlett, you’re back.

Scarlett approached, returning the smile gently. Violet, it’s so late. Why aren’t you resting?

Violet was dressed to go out. Usually by this time, she would have finished her skincare routine and been settling into bed.

But tonight, she wasn’t even in her pajamas.

Violet explained softly, Your brother is still working late at the office. I was just about to go check on him. I’m not sure if I’ll be back tonight, so I wanted to ask if you could take Clara to school tomorrow morning.”
