Chapter 448 A Flood of Demanding Texts
Meanwhile, her phone screen showed over a dozen unread messages.
Scarlett opened it and saw they were all from Damian.
“Scarlett, you’re the one who’s acting like a dog.”
“Dog, dog, you’re the dog.”
“Scarlett, are you even listening?”
“What’s with the silent treatment?”

“Don’t think just because you’re with Vincent you can ignore me. I’m telling you, you have to check in. Otherwise, I’ll show up at Ravenshade Villa and tear the place apart.”
“?”
“Talk to me. If you don’t reply, I’m going to lose it.”
“Let me say it again—he is not to touch you. Otherwise, I won’t agree to you staying there, divorce or not.”
“Scarlett, are you even reading these?”
After the flood of messages, Damian tried calling a few more times.
Scarlett’s phone was on silent, so Vincent didn’t notice.
After declining several calls, Scarlett finally texted back, “I heard you. Stop messaging.”
Damian replied almost instantly, “What were you doing just now?”
Scarlett typed, “Nothing.”
Damian warned, “You better listen to me. Don’t let that bastard Vincent lay a finger on you.”
Scarlett had just typed “Okay” when Vincent suddenly leaned closer.
Feeling his approach, she quickly turned off her phone screen.
Seeing her evasiveness, Vincent guessed she was messaging someone-he just couldn’t be sure if it was Damian.

He wasn’t angry. Instead, he smiled, his eyes studying hers. “Your face is all flushed. Hiding something from me?”
Scarlett turned away, neither looking at him nor replying.
Seeing her red cheeks and stubborn silence, Vincent didn’t
press further.
After a moment, he called Sabrina.
She picked up almost immediately, her voice bright with surprised delight. “Vincent, are you coming to see me?”
Vincent replied flatly, “Yes.”
Then he added, “Have Vanessa get ready. After I stop by, I’m taking her home. She has preschool tomorrow.”
Hearing this, Sabrina was caught off guard. She answered, slightly flustered, “Oh-okay. I understand.”
Vincent didn’t detect anything unusual. “We’ll be there in about thirty minutes.”
Vanessa still hadn’t returned, and Sabrina, now gripped by panic, didn’t even register Vincent’s use of “we”.
After hanging up, Sabrina called urgently to Maria, who was in the bathroom freshening up. “Mom, come out here, quick!”
Maria stepped out, drying her hands, and saw Sabrina trying anxiously to get out of bed.
She hurried over to support her. “What’s wrong?”
Sabrina said frantically, “Mom, you have to go find Vanessa. Vincent said he’ll be here in half an hour. If she’s not back by then, I won’t be able to explain it to him!”
Seeing Sabrina sweating with worry, Maria finally grasped the seriousness of the situation.
From the start, Maria had never liked Vanessa much. So when Sabrina mentioned the girl had gone out and hadn’t returned, Maria hadn’t thought much of it.
But now it was almost ten at night. Could something have actually happened?
Now Maria started to worry too.
Agreeing quickly, she hurried out of the hospital room to look.

Seeing Maria empty-handed, Sabrina’s heart, already in her throat, sank even further.
“Mom? You still couldn’t find her?”
Sabrina leaned back against the headboard, her face tight with worry.

Maria grabbed a cup of water, took a few gulps, and shook her head. “No. I checked all over the hospital. She’s not there.”
Sabrina pressed her hands to her forehead. “Mom, what if something really did happen to Vanessa? If Vincent finds out, he’ll blame me. He might even call off the wedding.”
Seeing her daughter so distressed, Maria sat beside her and wrapped an arm around her. “Sabrina, this isn’t your fault. The child is their responsibility. They can’t just dump her on you and then hold you accountable if something goes wrong. Besides, you’re injured-you’re a patient yourself. How could anyone expect you to take care of someone else right now?”
Even though that was true, Sabrina couldn’t shake her unease. “But Mom, she only stayed here to keep me company, so if she…”
