Maria cut Sabrina off coldly. “Keep you company? More like cause you trouble.”
Sabrina was still anxious. She pleaded, “Mom, please, just go look one more time.”

Maria wanted to refuse, but seeing her daughter’s distressed face, she reluctantly agreed. “Fine.”
As she stood and moved toward the door, Maria had just pulled it open when she nearly collided with Vincent stepping inside.
Vincent reacted quickly, sidestepping smoothly to avoid her.
Maria barely caught her balance. Recognizing Vincent, she froze in panic.
Finally, she managed a shaky greeting. “Oh, Vincent… it’s you.”
Vincent glanced at her evasive eyes, a little puzzled. “In a hurry?”
Maria waved a hand vaguely. “It’s… it’s nothing.”
Entering the room, Vincent saw Sabrina propped up against the bed’s headboard.
He looked at her, a question in his eyes. “Why aren’t you lying down to rest?”
Seeing Vincent hadn’t asked about Vanessa yet, Sabrina felt a flicker of relief.
But you can only hide something for so long.
Her briefly settled nerves tightened right back up.
Noticing Sabrina’s pale face, Vincent asked with quiet concern, “Feeling any better?”
Sabrina nodded, forcing a faint smile. “Yes, a little.”
Vincent sat down beside the bed, keeping Sabrina silent company for a while.
Neither spoke.
Before coming, he’d thought Sabrina might have a lot to say to him.
Unexpectedly, she stayed quiet.
After a few minutes, Vincent decided it was time to head back.

But when he glanced around the room, he didn’t see Vanessa.
His voice dropped immediately. “Where’s Vanessa?”
Hearing the question finally come, Sabrina’s eyes welled up, and tears spilled over.
She looked at Vincent, her face full of guilt. “Vincent, Vanessa… She’s missing.”

Outside the room, Scarlett sat on a bench in the hallway. Maria stood near the doorway.
Surprisingly, Maria hadn’t made any sharp remarks tonight.
She seemed preoccupied, worried about something.
Scarlett was confused at first, thinking Maria simply couldn’t be bothered with her.
But when she heard Sabrina’s voice from inside saying Vanessa was missing, Scarlett’s entire body went rigid.
Her body moved faster than her mind. Before she could fully process the words, she was already rushing into the room.
Without caring that Vincent was right there, Scarlett fixed a fierce glare on Sabrina. “Vanessa was with you. How could she be missing?”
At that moment, Sabrina couldn’t cling to pride or posture.
She explained hurriedly, “She wanted to buy me some fruit. I told her not to go, but she insisted. Once she left… she never came back.”
Scarlett’s voice was heavy, cold. “When exactly did she go missing?”
Sabrina flinched. She lowered her head, thinking, then answered, “Half an hour… no, an hour ago.”
Even saying an hour was an understatement.
It had been closer to four or five hours since Vanessa left the room.
But during all that time, Sabrina hadn’t been worried-hadn’t persistently urged Maria to look for her.
Seeing Sabrina’s guilty expression, Scarlett raised her voice. “Sabrina, tell me the truth.”
Cornered, Sabrina finally admitted, “Fine. It’s been about three hours since she left the

hospital.”
Three hours?
Hearing that, Scarlett nearly lost her composure.
“Sabrina, if anything has happened to Vanessa, I will hold you responsible.”
Her eyes were bloodshot, turning a frightening red in an instant.
As a mother, in that moment, she felt capable of anything.
Vincent sat by the bed, equally worried, but he didn’t lash out at Sabrina.

After confronting Sabrina, Scarlett turned her furious glare on Vincent. “You too, Vincent. If anything happens to her, I will never forgive you.”
With that, Scarlett ran out of the room.
Maria stood by the door. As Scarlett rushed past, she couldn’t resist muttering under her breath, “Some mother. Can’t even keep track of her own child, and now she’s blaming everyone else.”
Inside the room, after Scarlett left, Vincent instinctively stood to follow.
Sabrina quickly grabbed his hand, tears streaming down her face. “Vincent, I never meant for this to happen. I care about Vanessa like she’s my own. Her being missing hurts me just as much as it hurts Scarlett.”
