She merely let out a bitter, hollow laugh before saying, “That won’t be necessary. Let’s search separately.”
With that, she took a deliberate step back, putting distance between them.
Seeing this, Vincent moved to close the gap again, reaching for her.
But Scarlett recoiled fiercely, shouting, “Vincent, don’t come any closer. I’m begging you-just stay away.”
Hearing the raw plea in her voice, Vincent narrowed his eyes. His outstretched hand slowly dropped back to his side.
“Alright,” he said, his voice softer now. “I won’t come closer. I promise.”
Scarlett’s clothes were drenched, but she felt no chill-only a consuming dread for Vanessa.
Once Vincent had finally stilled, she turned and walked away.
Vincent instinctively started after her, but his phone rang abruptly. It was Abbott.
Shortly after leaving Sabrina’s room, Vincent had mobilized his team to search for Vanessa.
Abbott’s call now sparked a flicker of hope-maybe they’d found her-so he answered quickly.
But Abbott’s weary voice came through the line. “Mr. Stewart, we still haven’t located Ms. Stewart.”
Vincent’s anxiety spiked. He snapped into the phone, “What are you all doing? I ask you to find one child and you can’t manage it? What use are you?”
Even as he fought to stay composed, Abbott’s words sent a cold weight sinking through his chest.
Could something really have happened to her?
The thought alone made Vincent’s heart clench with a sharp, heavy pain.
Meanwhile, after leaving the hospital entrance, Scarlett let the rain soak into her skin. She didn’t care-pushing through the downpour, she scanned every corner, every shadow for any

For a fleeting moment, she thought it might be Vincent calling to say they’d found her.
But it wasn’t Vincent. It was Damian.
After a brief hesitation, she let it go to voicemail.
Yet Damian kept calling, insistent and relentless.
Finally, Scarlett answered, her patience worn thin.
Before she could even vent her frustration, Damian’s angry voice demanded through the receiver. “Scarlett, what are you doing? Why aren’t you picking up? Think you can just ignore me now?”
The barrage of questions only worsened her already frayed nerves.
After a few seconds of tense silence, Scarlett replied helplessly, “Damian, Vanessa is missing.”
The moment she spoke, Damian’s irritation vanished.
Even over the phone, he could hear the deep, trembling distress in her voice.
He’d assumed she was wrapped up with Vincent-that was why she hadn’t answered.
He never imagined the child was missing.
Sensing her fear, and knowing the storm still raged outside, Damian said urgently, “Tell me where you are. I’ll come help you look.”
After Scarlett gave him the address, he added firmly, “Don’t panic. I’m here. No matter what happens, I’ve got you.”
Somehow, Damian’s words felt more comforting than anything Vincent had said.
Scarlett couldn’t quite explain why, but they held a strange, steadying power, calming the storm inside her just a little.
After a long pause, she whispered into the phone, “Okay.”
She wasn’t sure if he’d heard that soft acknowledgment.

Damian had been waiting in Scarlett’s bedroom at Theron Manor. He’d showered, changed, and waited nearly an hour, but she never returned.
Now, hearing Vanessa was missing, he felt a jolt of alarm-not just for the child, but for Scarlett. He was terrified grief might drive her to do something reckless.
The moment the thought struck, he didn’t hesitate. He was out the door in seconds.
On the way, he made calls, directing his own people to fan out and search for Vanessa.
The hospital parking lot was packed; Damian couldn’t drive any closer. He pulled over by the curb a block away.
The night was deep, the streets almost empty.
But the hospital grounds still buzzed with scattered activity.
Just as Damian stepped out of his car, he thought he heard a faint, fragile cry for help. “Help… please…”
The sound was so thin he wondered if it was the wind.
He was about to hurry toward the main building when he heard it again.
“Help me…”
This time, he knew it wasn’t his imagination. Softly, he called out, “Vanessa? Is that you?”
A trembling, tiny voice replied, “Y-yes… it’s me.”
