It was about work. Vincent felt torn.

On one hand, he was spending time with Scarlett, doing things he’d rarely done with her before. On the other, urgent matters at the office demanded his attention.

After a brief hesitation, he answered Abbott’s call.

Unsurprisingly, it was a pressing issue that required his immediate return.

Just then, Scarlett emerged from the fitting room. She glanced at her reflection, thought the outfit looked fine, and said to the sales associate, “I’ll take all of these.”

If she didn’t spend Vincent’s money now, she might not get another chance.

In all their years of marriage, she hadn’t really used much of his money.

So she didn’t want to walk away empty-handed.

While they were still married, she decided to make the most of it.

Vincent had just ended the call. He stood and said to Scarlett, “I need to head back to the office.”

Hearing that, the smile instantly faded from Scarlett’s face.

The sales associate, who was about to take the dozen-plus items for packaging, paused at Vincent’s words.

These clothes would likely total over fifty thousand dollars.

Scarlett didn’t look like someone who could afford that on her own.

And the man who could was saying he had to leave.

The associate hesitated, worried the sale might fall through.

Even Scarlett herself thought Vincent was backing out of the purchase.

He hadn’t mentioned leaving earlier, but now, right when it was time to pay…

Before she could dwell on it, Vincent took a bank card from his pocket. He pressed it into Scarlett’s hand. “Use this. Buy whatever you like. I’ll head back first and pick you up later.”

It was a black card. Both Scarlett and the associate were taken aback.

Scarlett didn’t try to return it. She took the card and slipped it into her bag.

She offered Vincent a faint smile. “Alright.”

Seeing her smile, Vincent couldn’t help but reach out and gently ruffle her hair. His expression softened. “If only you could always be this agreeable.”

Scarlett didn’t reply to that, staying silent.

The nearby associate watched Vincent’s behavior toward Scarlett with a mix of envy and curiosity.

Before leaving, Vincent pulled Scarlett into a brief hug, kissed her forehead, and finally walked

away.

Scarlett watched him go, then turned back to the associate. “I’d like to try on a few more things, please.”

She wasn’t being difficult-she genuinely intended to spend Vincent’s money.

If she didn’t, he’d likely spend it on Sabrina later anyway.

Might as well make up for all the

years she’d

gone without.

Seeing such a high-spending client, the store staff immediately provided their full attention.

Scarlett tried on quite a few pieces. She wasn’t completely satisfied with most, but still told the associate, “I’ll take these for now.”

At the same time, she continued trying on clothes in the fitting room.

Just then, there was a soft knock on the fitting room door.

No one spoke from outside, but Scarlett assumed it was an associate and opened the door.

There was still a curtain separating the fitting area from the main floor. Without looking to see who it was, she continued dressing.

The next moment, Scarlett felt a slight stir of air, and then a pair of large hands reached around her from behind, crossing over her stomach and lacing their fingers together.

Before she could even react, she was pulled tightly against a scorching chest.

Her back was pressed flush against the newcomer’s torso. His heat seemed to seep through her clothes, as if it might melt her completely.

Scarlett struggled slightly. The person behind her rested his chin on her shoulder and let out a low, weary chuckle. “Don’t move. Just let me hold you for a minute.”

It was Damian’s voice, but unlike his usual robust tone, it was layered with exhaustion.

Damian leaned most of his weight against her. He rested there, eyes closed. His deep, measured breaths brushed against her ear, one after another.

Scarlett’s clothes were only half on. Her upper body was almost fully exposed, not even wearing a bra.

Instinctively, she hunched forward, crossing her arms over herself.

Damian’s hands didn’t wander; they simply remained interlaced over her stomach.

Scarlett’s body was rigid. She didn’t dare struggle, afraid any movement might reveal more.

But soon, the sound of Damian’s steady breathing-as if he’d drifted off-reached her ears.

Scarlett was at a loss, but she stayed frozen, not daring to move.

However, pressed under his weight, she couldn’t help a slight tremble.

Damian opened his eyes. The dense network of red veins in them looked like a cracked map of fatigue.
