He nuzzled his cheek against hers, his voice low and gravelly. “You smell incredible, darling. Like something rare and addictive. I can’t get enough.”
Now that he was clearly awake, Scarlett pushed lightly against his arms. “Damian, let me go. Please.”
Instead of releasing her, he pulled her even closer. “No. Not a chance.”
His hold was firm, yet his fingertips traced slow, deliberate circles just below her navel.
A wave of tingling weakness washed through her. She resisted instinctively. “Damian, don’t.”
Her body was delicate, her upper half completely bare.
Damian wore a black coat over a dress shirt. Through the thin cotton, her body heat seeped into him, making his entire frame tense.
He was broad, enveloping her completely as he leaned his weight into her.
He turned his head, letting his lips brush the curve of her ear, occasionally catching the soft lobe between his teeth. His breath was a hot, steady hiss against her skin, an insistent invasion.
Scarlett felt her limbs go liquid. She protested again, her voice unsteady. “Damian, stop.”
But the words came out husky, thick with a tension she hadn’t intended.
That sound almost undid Damian’s control. The hand on her abdomen began a slow, deliberate ascent, seeking higher ground.
But Scarlett’s crossed arms formed a barrier; she blocked his advance.
Her voice held a plea. “Damian, I’m not divorced yet. Don’t do this.”
His hand stilled, halting its climb. He turned to press a kiss to her cheek. “So after the divorce, it’s fine?” he asked, a rogue’s chuckle in his voice.
“No,” Scarlett said.
Damian laughed softly, not offended. He murmured against her ear, “Once you’re free, I have a thousand ways to make you say yes, sweetheart. I’m possessive and unreasonable. You won’t slip away from me.”

Hearing him, Scarlett felt the last of her strength drain.
Her body leaned back against his solid chest, but she didn’t dare move.
She could feel the clear, unmistakable evidence of his arousal pressed against her.

Seeing her silence, Damian reached past her and picked up the black card she’d left on the bench. His tone turned commanding. “Don’t use his. Use mine.”
Scarlett didn’t answer, just kept her arms tightly crossed over herself.
She stayed facing away, not daring to turn and look at him.
Damian lowered his head, nuzzling her cheek again. “You don’t feel like talking to me?”
Her body was cold and rigid. She whispered, “Go out first. Let me get dressed.”
“I’m not going out,” Damian said, his voice a low rumble. “I’ll see all of you eventually anyway. This is just moving the schedule up a bit.”
His words sparked irritation. “If you keep this up, I’ll call for help,” she said, annoyed.
Damian tossed Vincent’s black card into the small wastebasket in the fitting room. His hands returned to her waist, fingers lacing together. His warm mouth found her earlobe again. “Call whoever you want. Everyone out there works for me. If I don’t give the word, no one’s coming in.”
Scarlett grew more frustrated. “Damian, you—”
He held her tighter, as if wanting to fuse her into his very bones. He didn’t let her finish, his tongue flicking the tip of her ear, his tone shifting to a weary plea. “Please. Just let me hold you for a little while.”
That took some of the edge off her anger. She kept her voice low. “You’ve been holding me for over ten minutes already.”
“Only ten?” Damian murmured. “I want to hold you for a lifetime. Never let go.”
Scarlett sighed, saying nothing.
Hearing her quiet, he went on, his voice even rougher. “I need to sleep for a minute.”
A thread of concern wound through Scarlett’s chest. Instinctively, she asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Didn’t sleep at all last night.”

Remembering what Vincent had said that morning, she asked, confused, “I heard you took a major deal from Vincent?”
Damian never considered hiding things from her. “Yes.”
“Why?”
“For you.”
Scarlett’s body went stiff. She understood the implication and didn’t press further.
After a moment, she tried again, tentatively. “Damian… can you let me go now?”
