Chapter 473 The Wrong Mommy
He ignored Nolan’s presence and asked Scarlett with a faint smile, “All done?”
Scarlett looked up at him. “Yes.”
Vincent extended his hand toward her. “Let’s go home, then.”
She stared at his offered hand but didn’t take it.

After a moment, she turned back to Nolan. “Thank you for tonight. I’ll do my best tomorrow. I believe I can get to where I want to be.”
Seeing her confidence, Nolan couldn’t help but smile. “Ill be rooting for you.”
Scarlett offered a small smile in return. “I should get going.”
Though reluctant, Nolan knew some things were beyond his control.
He yielded quietly. “Alright. Text me when you’re home
Scarlett nodded. “I will.”
With that, she walked toward Vincent’s car.
Seeing her approach, Vincent moved ahead to open the passenger door.
After Scarlett slid inside, she rolled down the window. You should head back soon too, Nolan. Goodnight.”
Nolan raised a hand. “Goodnight.”
Once they had parted, Vincent got into the driver’s seat
As the car pulled away, he asked, “Did you enjoy yourself tonight?”
Scarlett answered without hesitation. “Yes, I did.”
Vincent didn’t take offense. Instead, he said seriously, “Would you like me to take you tomorrow?”
Scarlett refused without thinking. “That won’t be necessary.”
Vincent didn’t press further.
When the car stopped at Ravenshade Villa, Vincent quickly got out to open her door.
He was always quick–yet always a step too late.
Before he could reach it, Scarlett had already stepped out on her own.
Seeing her so decisively reject his gesture, Vincent felt familiar sting.
They walked back into the house one after the other. Before Scarlett even reached the front hall, she could. hear Vanessa and Sabrina playing inside.
“Sabrina, no–that’s not the right move!”

“What’s wrong with it? I’m about to win, sweetie.”
“Sabrina, can’t you let me win just once?”
“Didn’t you tell me not to go easy on you?”

The two were thoroughly absorbed. Vanessa, with her back to the entrance, didn’t notice Scarlett’s return at
all.
Sabrina, facing the doorway, saw Scarlett and Vincent immediately.
They had returned separately and seemed out of sync.
Scarlett didn’t look toward Sabrina or Vanessa, bypassing their play area and heading straight upstairs.
Vincent entered the hall just as Lily emerged from the kitchen. She watched Scarlett disappear up the staircase.
Lily looked at Vincent, curiosity written on her face, but before she could speak, he spoke first, “Lily, could you warm up a glass of milk and take it up to Mrs. Stewart? She needs proper rest tonight.”
Hearing this, Sabrina–sitting on the carpet–suddenly remembered something.
Counting the days… tomorrow was the exam.
Yes, Sabrina recalled. She’d heard Thomas mention Scarlett was taking the graduate school entrance exams.
The thought of Scarlett sitting for the exam unsettleder.
She knew Scarlett had been a top student once, though she’d stepped away from medicine after marrying.
Now she was trying to return.
Even though Sabrina was already a graduate student herself, she feared being overshadowed.
Quietly, a seed of resentment took root–she didn’t want Scarlett to succeed.
With that thought, Sabrina barely slept all night.
Early the next morning, before dawn had properly broken, she slipped into Vincent’s room.
The moment she heard the guest room door open, Sabrina immediately opened Vincent’s door.
She was dressed suggestively–a crimson silk robe, her cheeks flushed, her hair artfully disheveled.
What might have happened that night was all too clear to anyone who saw her.
After a brief glance, Scarlett started down the stairs.
Seeing herself ignored, Sabrina felt a surge of irritation
Just then, Vanessa’s voice floated up from below, “Mommy!”
Scarlett was on the staircase. She thought Vanessa was calling for her.
Without thinking, she responded, “Yes?”

But as soon as she spoke, Vanessa looked up. Seeing it was Scarlett who had answered, the smile vanished from her face.
Then Vanessa added, “I called the wrong person. I thought Sabrina had come down.”
Hearing that, Scarlett’s body tensed almost imperceptibly.
But she simply pretended nothing was wrong and said quietly, “Oh.”
