Sabrina stood on the steps, watching Scarlett’s momentary freeze. A sly, satisfied smile touched her lips.
Good. Scarlett would definitely be off her game today.
After Scarlett drove away, Sabrina made her way back to Vincent’s room.
As soon as she entered, she saw him sitting on the edge of the bed.
His pajama top was loose, the muscles of his chest catching the light with a warm, golden hue.
Sabrina’s heart skipped a beat.
Vincent looked up at her, but his gaze was sharp and cool. “What are you doing in my room this early?”
He had pretended to be asleep earlier, wanting to see what she was up to.
Hearing his tone, Sabrina’s face flushed. She put on a wounded expression. “Vincent, I… I just missed you, so
I…”
She didn’t finish, just looked at him with pitiful eyes.
Seeing her on the verge of tears, Vincent felt a spike of irritation. He didn’t want to engage further. “Go downstairs and keep Vanessa company. I need to get ready.”
Sabrina clearly saw the impatience in his eyes. It felt like a needle prick to her heart.
Still, she pretended to be obedient. “Alright. I’ll go down then.”
But as she descended the stairs, tears of humiliation welled in her eyes.
She didn’t know when it had started, but Vincent seemed to have lost all warmth toward her.
His moods were unpredictable. Sabrina felt he changed too fast–she couldn’t read him anymore.

That afternoon, Scarlett finished her exam,
Stepping out of the testing center, she felt a wave of relief and had a fairly good sense of how she’d performed.
Surprisingly, there weren’t many cars waiting outside, but as Scarlett walked out, she immediately spotted Nolan’s black Audi and Vincent’s conspicuous Maserati–though Vincent wasn’t in it; Abbott was behind the wheel.
Nolan had also arrived early and had been waiting for a while.
Seeing both Nolan and Abbott, Scarlett was momentarily taken aback.
Abbott was quicker. He stepped forward. “Mrs. Stewart, Mr. Stewart has arranged a celebration dinner. He asked me to ensure I bring you back.”

Hearing this. Abbott frowned slightly. “Mrs. Stewart, please don’t make this difficult for me.”
Scarlett met his eyes, her voice low. “Then please don’t make it difficult for me, either.”
Abbott was momentarily at a loss. “But Mrs. Stewart, this is Mr. Stewart’s wish.”
He tried invoking Vincent’s name, hoping she might reconsider.
But she didn’t. Scarlett still chose Nolan. She said to him, “Nolan, let’s go.”
Hearing that, Nolan opened the passenger door. After Scarlett got in, he took the driver’s seat.
That evening, Nolan had made reservations at a popular restaurant.
When they arrived, someone else was already there–Melinda.
Seeing her, Scarlett was surprised. She looked from Nolan to Melinda.
Before Nolan could explain, Melinda spoke first, “Why he suspicious look? We’re all in medicine. It’s a small world–running into each other isn’t exactly hard.”
Scarlett was skeptical but sat in the chair Nolan held out for her.
Seeing her disbelief, Melinda added, “I’m in Rivergate for some freelance surgical consulting. Ran into Nolan in the OR the other day. He suggested grabbing bite after, so we caught up. Today he texted saying you’d finished your exams and we should all get together.
Scarlett glanced at Nolan, then said to Melinda, “I see.”
At that moment, Nolan chimed in smoothly. “I thought you’d be in a good mood after the test, and since Ms. Olsen was your old roommate, it seemed like a perfect chance for you two to reconnect.”
Hearing this, Scarlett offered a faint smile. “Well, have a seat then.”
The table was rectangular, positioned against the window so no one could sit on that side. Currently, Scarlett and Melinda were seated across from each other on the long sides.
Nolan was standing near the aisle, close to Scarlett’s sid
His intention was somewhat clear he wanted to sit next to her.
Scarlett understood perfectly but didn’t scoot over. Instead, she gestured for him to take the seat beside Melinda.
Not for any particular reason–she knew Melinda had elings for Nolan, and Melinda was genuinely a wonderful person.
So she thought she’d try to give fate a little nudge.
What if Nolan ended up liking Melinda back?
