Chapter 502 A Dangerous Secret
Scarlett stepped closer. She reached toward his chest. He caught her wrist halfway.
He looked down at her. Shook his head. “Don’t.”
She met his eyes. They were red-rimmed, the whites threaded with broken vessels.
She paused. “You’ve lost that much blood. What are you still hiding from me?”
His voice was quiet but firm. “I wasn’t trying to deceive you.”
Scarlett wasn’t backing down. “Let me see.”

No matter what she said, Damian wouldn’t give in. “You don’t need to see this. I’m not going to die.”
Her expression darkened. “Don’t say things like that.”
He heard the worry underneath her words. It stung-but he still didn’t want her to see him like this.
“I won’t say it again,” he said. “You should
go.”

She acted like she hadn’t heard him. “Sit down. Let me dress the wound.”
“No.”
“You’ve lost this much blood. Do you want to bleed out?”
Her voice cracked. Her neck was taut, her eyes rimmed red.
Damian wanted to give in. But then he thought about the wound underneath his shirt. How bad
it was. He shook his head again. “I can handle it myself. You should leave.”
He turned his back to her.
It was the first time he had ever refused her like this.
He wanted her to stay. But he couldn’t. Not like this. Not weak. Not bleeding.
He only wanted her to see him as someone she could lean on.
Scarlett watched his back for a moment. Then she turned toward the door. “Fine. I’ll leave.”
Just then, Damian’s phone buzzed. He was afraid he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from

calling her back. So he pulled it out.
A message from Ruth.
“If you let her go now, she’s spending Christmas Eve with Nolan. Think carefully.”
Scarlett was already at the door.
Damian didn’t think. “Scarlett. Come back.”
She kept walking.
He exhaled. Then said, “Luke stabbed me.”
At that, Scarlett stopped. Her legs felt heavy, rooted to the floor.
She turned back, her face blank with disbelief. “Luke?”
Damian met her bewildered gaze and nodded. “Yes.”
Her heart slammed against her ribs. “Where is he now?”
“He can have his Christmas Eve tonight,” Damian said. “I’ll file the report tomorrow.”

Scarlett’s voice came out tight. “If you do that, you’re going against Vincent. Against the entire Stewart family.”
Damian’s eyes were bright. Wet at the edges. His voice was soft. “Haven’t Vincent and I always been on opposite sides?”
Something underneath his words caught her off guard. She stared at him. “You…”
A cold glint passed through Damian’s eyes. “Luke sent Naomi after you. That alone-I’ll never forget it. I can’t even raise my voice at you. Who does he think he is, sending someone to put their hands on you?”
Scarlett stood in the doorway, the light from the room pooling at her feet.
Her shadow stretched long behind her.
When he said those words, she went still.
She had almost forgotten that night. The night she ended up in the hospital. The miscarriage.
Not because she didn’t want to remember. But because she thought remembering would only hurt more.

So she chose to forget.

She never expected that the things she couldn’t bear to hold onto were the very things Damian. had been holding all along.
Maybe all these days, he’d been waiting. Figuring out how to settle it.
Her chest ached.
She couldn’t look at him. Even if he was pretending. Even if there was something underneath she couldn’t see.
His devotion was bright. Burning.
It stirred something in her she didn’t want to name.
More than once, she’d felt she couldn’t resist it.
His love was too fierce. Too absolute.
But she didn’t know if it was real.
After a long silence, she finally spoke, “Damian. You don’t have to do this. I can’t accept it.”
He took a step toward the door. His voice urgent. “No. You deserve it.”
Scarlett stepped back. She didn’t want to keep going down this road.
A few seconds passed. Then she looked up at him, her tone stiff. “Vincent won’t let you send Luke away.”
