It took a long moment before the maid finally managed to stammer, "Are... Are you a ghost? Or a person?"

Damian's groggy mind finally caught up with where he was. He leaned back against the headboard, lazy and cocky, hands folded behind his head. He looked at the terrified maid frozen in the doorway and said, "Do ghosts usually look this good?"

Hearing him speak, the maid slowly started to calm down. She pressed a hand to her chest, then remembered to ask, "Who... Who are you? How did you get in here?"

Damian had crashed hard the night before and hadn't even bothered to take off his jacket.

He tossed the blanket aside and got up, walking toward her with purpose.

The maid instinctively stepped back.

He caught the movement and stopped. "Where's Scarlett?"

Through the window, the morning light was bright—later than he'd thought.

Instead of answering, she asked nervously, "Who are you? What do you want with her?"

Damian's mouth curved into a lazy grin. "Who am I? I'm her future husband."

The maid didn't believe him for a second, but she answered anyway, "She hasn't been home in days."

Damian blinked, caught off guard. But after a beat, he just said, "Thanks."

Then he strolled past her and headed downstairs.

The maid watched him go, too rattled to say another word.

Once outside the estate, Damian called Zachary.

Zachary picked up fast. "What's up?"

Damian didn't bother with pleasantries. "Is my girl with yours?"

There was a pause on the other end. Then Zachary said, slowly, "Uh... no. She's not with Claire."

He added quickly, "Why? What's going on?"

Damian shrugged it off. "Nothing."

He hung up and pointed the car toward Ravenshade Villa.

He couldn't get over the wall there like he did at Scarlett's place, so he decided to just walk in through the front.

Lucky for him, Lily was just coming back from running errands.

Damian didn't waste time. "Where's Scarlett?"

At the mention of Scarlett's name, Lily's eyes went red. "She's in the hospital."

Damian's face went pale. "What happened? Why?"
