Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 572

Melinda froze for a second, then forced a smile. "You're already so busy with work, Nolan, and you still made time to come all the way here. Scarlett must really mean a lot to you, huh?"

Nolan didn't hesitate. "Yeah. She means more to me than anything."

Melinda had only asked carefully, testing the waters.

She never expected him to answer so directly—to flat out tell her that Scarlett mattered more to him than anything else in the world.

That answer left a bitter taste in her mouth.

She thought back to their college days, when she'd looked up to Nolan, crushed on him quietly for years.

She'd moved on since then, sure. But some things always seemed to linger in the back of her heart.

It was one thing for Nolan to be into Scarlett. But Damian too?

After everything, she was the one who'd saved Damian back then.

Melinda stood there, stunned, blank, not sure what to do next.

Noticing she'd gone quiet, Nolan didn't push. He just softened his voice and said, "Well, Ms. Olsen, I'm gonna go check on Scarlett now. Take care."

And with that, he turned and walked toward the hospital room before she could even respond.

By the time Melinda snapped out of it and tried to say something, he was already too far away.

Watching him go, she let out a quiet, bitter laugh.

She didn't get it. What was she missing compared to Scarlett?

Why did every guy seem to gravitate toward her?

Scarlett had been married before. She had a kid. She'd even had an abortion. So why was everyone so drawn to her?

Later that night, Vanessa stayed up a little past her usual bedtime.

Lily had given her a bath and was drying her hair.

Vanessa glanced out the window, but the driveway was empty. Her dad's car still wasn't back.

After thinking for a moment, she asked curiously, "Lily, where's Daddy? Is he still working late?"

Lily kept running the towel through Vanessa's hair as she answered, "Sweetie, your dad went to Nebula City."

Vanessa whipped around, surprised. "He went to Nebula City?"

Lily nodded. "Yes, he did."

Vanessa's face fell. "Hmph. He went to Nebula City and didn't even take me. That's so unfair."

Vanessa's eyes dropped in disappointment. "Oh. Okay then. I don't wanna bother her."

Vincent glanced at his watch—it was already past eleven.

His tone turned a little more serious. "If you've got that much energy, you should be heading to bed. Get up early tomorrow, have Lily take you to see your mom, then go to preschool."

Vanessa immediately got upset. "Hmph. I don't wanna see her."

Vincent frowned, confused. "Why not? Talk to me."

Vanessa turned her face away, all dramatic. "She's the one who tripped and fell down the stairs, but she still blamed me. Said I pushed her. I don't wanna see her."

Seeing his daughter so upset, Vincent pressed. "What happened? Just a few days ago, you were begging to see your mom."

Vanessa got even more worked up. "Daddy, why do you keep bringing her up? Can you just stop? I don't wanna talk about her."

Just days ago, Vanessa had gone on and on about Scarlett—said she missed her, wanted to sleep next to her, wanted to hug her.

Now his daughter was saying the complete opposite.

Listening to her, Vincent felt a moment of genuine confusion.

For a second, he almost wondered if he'd imagined her saying all those things about missing her mom a few days ago.

Vanessa noticed his silence and quickly spoke up again. "Dad, can you tell Sabrina something for me? Tell her I miss her and want to sleep with her."
