Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 575

Vincent hesitated for a second before answering, "Yeah."

They talked a little longer, and then Lucy said she had to go.

After hanging up, Vincent turned and saw Sabrina standing by the window, letting the cool night air drift in.

He frowned slightly, walked over, and gently guided her back. "You're still recovering. You shouldn't be standing in the draft."

Sabrina looked up at him with a soft smile. "Okay, I won't."

That smile only made him feel more unsettled.

A moment later, he spoke again, "I need to head back to Rivergate tomorrow."

Sabrina looked confused. "For your mom's birthday?"

He didn't hide it. "Yeah."

She stepped closer and slipped her hand into his. "Can I come with you?"

She looked up at him, hope flickering in her eyes.

She waited for his answer.

But he stayed quiet for a long time.

The hope in her face slowly faded.

Soon, that familiar loneliness crept back into her eyes.

Vincent reached out and gently pinched her cheek. "Sabrina, not this time. Your health comes first. Once you're better, I'll bring you back for Christmas."

Sabrina forced a small smile. "Okay."

He ruffled her hair. "Get some sleep now. I'll stay until you do."

She understood. He wasn't ready to bring her home to meet his family yet. Pushing wouldn't help.

If Vincent had made up his mind about something, not even threatening her own life would change it.

She washed up, climbed into bed, and closed her eyes—but sleep didn't come.

Vincent sat in the chair beside her bed, not really paying attention to whether she was asleep or not.

He pulled out his phone and typed another message to Scarlett. "Tomorrow's Mom's birthday. You coming by?"

He was just testing the waters. Didn't mention that he'd be there too.

Back in the day, Scarlett had gone all out for the Theron family. Every holiday, every birthday—she'd cook up a storm, make a whole spread.

But this message he sent? It felt like it disappeared into thin air. No reply.

At one point, Vincent actually wondered if she'd blocked him.
