Vincent's hand, which he'd started to lift, dropped back down. He let Sabrina hold onto him, glanced down at her, and offered a faint smile. "No, nothing. Just zoned out for a second."
Sabrina didn't push. Instead, her eyes brightened a little as she suggested, "Vincent, let's head back to Rivergate tomorrow."
That caught him off guard. "Why the sudden rush to go back?"
She tilted her head, still pressed against his waist. "I miss Vanessa."
Vincent paused for a moment. "Get some more rest first. We'll go back in a couple days."
Sabrina wasn't letting it go. "Vincent, I'm fine now, really. I just miss her. Can we please go back?"
He should've said yes. But something held him back. "Be patient, alright? Once you're feeling a bit stronger, we'll go."
As he spoke, he gently guided her around from behind him so she was standing in front of him.
Sabrina looked up at him, her gaze soft and warm.
Seeing how firm he was, she didn't want to keep pushing.
So she gave in. "Okay, fine. I'll listen to you."
Hearing that, Vincent smiled softly and reached out to tap her nose. "That's my girl."
Sabrina's cheeks flushed at his words. She rose on her tiptoes and leaned in, aiming for his lips.
But right as she was about to make contact, Vincent instinctively turned his head away.
Her lips ended up brushing against his cheek instead.
For a second, she was stunned.
Once she settled back down, her voice came out a little flat. "Vincent, we've been together this long, and we can't even kiss?"
Vincent took a small step back, his gaze steady. "When we're married, I'll make an honest woman out of you."
The disappointment on Sabrina's face didn't ease with his words. If anything, she looked more upset. "Vincent, I'm a normal person. I have needs too. You've never even touched me. Am I supposed to just deal with it on my own?"
Seeing her so worked up, her face flushed, Vincent stepped forward, gently took her arms, and tried to calm her down. "Sabrina, hey, take it easy. The doctor said you need rest."
Tears started slipping down her cheeks. She looked up at him, eyes serious. "Vincent, tell me the truth. Are you still thinking about Scarlett?"
Vincent froze. For a split second, he actually hesitated.
But after a few beats, he shook his head. "No. I'm not."
