Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 642

Scarlett said, "I should go see him."

Damian let out an impatient sigh. "What for?"

Her eyes were bright, almost sparkling. She offered a soft smile. "To talk with Nolan. To clear things up."

Damian's frown eased slightly. "Clear what up?"

"He's a wonderful person, but..." she began.

He didn't wait for her to finish. Pushing himself up from his seat, he moved behind her wheelchair. "Alright. Let's go now, then."

Scarlett couldn't help but laugh at how quickly he'd changed his tune.

Hearing her laugh, Damian chuckled too.

Some things were better left unspoken; they both understood that.

On the way to the hospital, Scarlett tried calling Nolan.

The call went through, but all she got was his voicemail—his calm, professional recording. "You've reached Dr. Huntley. I'm currently in surgery. Please leave a message, and I'll return your call as soon as I can."

She knew all too well how demanding a surgeon's life was, but she still felt she had to go. This couldn't wait.

It was almost nine by the time Nolan finally finished up. As he stepped out of the hospital's main entrance, he saw her—sitting in her wheelchair amid the lightly falling snow. She wore a scarf and gloves but no hat, and flakes had settled in her hair and on her shoulders.

For a second, Nolan just stared, surprised. Then he quickly walked over, instinctively lifting a hand to shield her head from the snow.

"It's coming down pretty hard. Didn't you bring an umbrella?" he asked, his voice warm with concern.

Scarlett looked up at him, her smile gentle but serious. "I wanted to wait for you here. There's something I need to say."

Her tone reminded him of that earnest afternoon at the Theron estate—when he'd gone to ask for her hand.

Nolan was sharp. He understood immediately why she'd come.

"So you know about my visit to the Therons?"

Scarlett nodded. "Yes."

He tested the waters, keeping his voice steady. "And you're here to give me your answer?"

She didn't reply, but her silence was answer enough.

Nolan managed a faint, pained smile. "Yeah... I kind of already figured."
