Claire spotted Vincent and the others as well, but she was in no mood to back down. "Why should we be the ones to leave? We're staying right here. It's not like we have anything to be ashamed of."
With that, she pushed Scarlett's wheelchair firmly into the boutique and began browsing through the racks as if she owned the place. She wheeled Scarlett to a spot not far from where Vincent's group was standing, then started pulling outfits one by one, examining each with a critical eye.
Whenever something caught her fancy, she'd hold it up against herself and ask Scarlett, "What do you think—does this work on me?"
Scarlett would glance over, study it for a moment, and answer honestly, "Yeah, the color really pops. It looks great on you. With your fair complexion, that shade makes you look like a porcelain doll."
Claire felt a slight warmth in her cheeks at the praise. "Really, it's that good?"
Scarlett nodded with certainty. "I'm serious, it really suits you."
Ever since the accident, Scarlett had rarely seen Claire so lighthearted. Seeing her enjoy herself tonight, Scarlett decided not to insist on leaving.
Sure, Vincent was there too, but as long as they kept their distance, she figured it would be fine.
Encouraged by Scarlett's compliments, Claire grinned. "Maybe I should try it on?"
"Go ahead," Scarlett said softly. "I'll wait here."
Just as Claire was heading toward an empty fitting room, Vanessa's sharp voice cut through the air. "That's Sabrina's fitting room—pick another one!"
Scarlett heard Vanessa's tone and instinctively wanted to tell her to watch her manners, but the words stuck in her throat. She no longer had the right to scold Vanessa—and even if she did, it wouldn't make a difference.
Claire, however, wasn't one to swallow her temper. She shot Vanessa a dirty look and opened her mouth to fire back, but then she remembered this was Scarlett's daughter. Swallowing her anger, she backed off and slipped into a different fitting room without another word.
While Claire was changing, Scarlett kept her eyes fixed on her phone, partly to hide her discomfort and partly to avoid glancing toward Vincent and the others.
Across the store, Vincent had clearly noticed Scarlett's presence, but he never once looked in her direction—almost as if he was deliberately avoiding her gaze.
Sabrina emerged from her fitting room shortly after. After soaking in Vanessa's lavish praise, she still turned toward Vincent, her voice sweet. "Vincent, what do you think?"
Vincent looked her over and gave an approving nod. "Looks good. Keep it on—I'll get it for you."
"Thank you, Vincent," Sabrina beamed. "You're the best."
Vincent chuckled lightly. "Of course."
