Even Vincent with Sabrina probably never paid as much attention as Damian did with her.
That rare tenderness—Scarlett suddenly felt she wanted to hold onto it too.
Just like Damian said—if she didn't reach for it now, was she supposed to wait until he started calling someone else "babe"?
He was amazing. He could easily find someone even better.
Scarlett sat in front of the computer. She didn't touch any of Damian's things, but pulled up a medical lecture to watch.
To avoid disturbing him, she turned the volume all the way down.
Damian sat across from her, completely absorbed in his work. That usual arrogant edge of his seemed to fade away naturally.
Scarlett couldn't really focus on the lecture, so she peeked over her screen at Damian. He was leaning over some documents, his eyelashes lowered softly, hiding his eyes. He looked careful, thorough.
He felt her gaze and glanced up. A slight smile touched his lips. "Be good, keep yourself busy a little longer. I'll be with you as soon as I wrap this up."
Caught staring, Scarlett quickly looked away. She pretended she hadn't been watching and didn't respond.
Damian smiled gently to himself and returned to his work without another word.
And like that, he worked straight through for over three hours, long past lunchtime.
When he finally set the papers aside and checked the time, it was almost two in the afternoon.
Damian usually skipped lunch anyway—just so he could free up his evenings to spend with Scarlett.
Even when he worked late, Kylie always made sure he had something to eat.
She never needed reminding; she just handled it.
But today, after upsetting Kylie earlier, she'd left—and so had any thought of lunch.
Realizing how late it was, Damian opened his mouth to apologize, but then he noticed Scarlett had fallen asleep at his desk.
She looked peaceful—eyes gently closed, her nose small. In that moment, she seemed sweet, fragile almost, like a sleeping kitten.
Watching her, Damian couldn't help but smile.
He pulled out his phone and texted Brett, "Bring two lunches over. Include some broth—keep it light."
Brett replied right away, "Got it, Mr. Langley."
After sending the message, Damian stood and stretched slightly. Then he took his suit jacket and draped it carefully over Scarlett's shoulders.
His movements were soft, and she didn't stir.
When Brett arrived with the food, Damian finally leaned in and called her name gently. "Scarlett?"
