Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 654

It was a chair Kylie had never once sat in, yet Scarlett had settled into it effortlessly.

Just as Scarlett took her seat, Kylie walked into the office—and Damian noticed right away.

Turning slightly, Damian spoke to Kylie, his tone businesslike. "Kylie, please bring two coffees. Mine as usual, and make Scarlett's with extra sugar and cream."

Kylie froze where she stood. She stared at Damian, disbelief flashing across her face, before pointing a finger at herself. "Mr. Langley, you... want me to make coffee for her?"

Damian's expression remained calm and detached. "Is there an issue?"

Over the years as Damian's executive assistant, Kylie had certainly prepared drinks before—that wasn't the real problem.

She'd been willing to do it when Damian was in meetings or hosting clients.

But this was different. This was him being attentive to another woman.

Kylie's eyes instantly grew moist. "Mr. Langley," she said, voice trembling slightly, "I'm not a server. My job isn't just to fetch coffee."

At that moment, the only relationship between Damian and Kylie was that of employer and employee.

"Kylie," Damian replied evenly, "remember where you are. It's still office hours. As my assistant, your role includes the tasks I assign you."

It wasn't that Damian wanted to embarrass her—this was simply how they'd operated for years.

Outside work, they could be family friends or anything else. But inside the office, their dynamic was strictly professional.

Tears welled in Kylie's eyes. "I won't do it," she refused flatly.

Damian was about to reply sharply when Scarlett gently tugged his sleeve. "Damian, it's fine, I don't really want coffee. Please don't put her in that position."

Though Scarlett's voice was soft, Kylie had been around long enough to read the situation.

Even if she didn't catch every word, Scarlett's expression made it clear she was pleading on Kylie's behalf.

But Kylie didn't want that kindness. "Scarlett," she snapped, anger flaring, "I don't need your fake sympathy. I don't need you speaking up for me. If you hadn't come between us, Damian and I wouldn't be like this. If you really want to help me, then just leave—"

Before she could finish, Damian moved in front of Scarlett, his gaze turning cold and sharp. "Kylie," he warned, his voice low, "no one forced you to take this job. You earned it fairly. If you're unwilling to perform your duties, you're free to resign. But insulting the woman I'm with? That's not your place."

"Damian, you're such a jerk! You're yelling at me again!"

Kylie broke down completely, tears now streaming freely.
