Seeing her frown, Damian couldn't help smiling too. "If you don't like it, then just scroll through your phone for a while instead. The textbooks can wait."
Scarlett nodded lightly. "Okay. I know."
Before leaving, Damian wrapped his arms around her one last time, clearly reluctant to go.
Only after holding her for a long moment did he finally stand up and leave the room.
When he walked out the door, he deliberately kept moving forward without looking back because he knew the second he did, he wouldn't want to leave her anymore.
After Damian left, Scarlett lay back down on the bed again. Thinking about everything that had happened at the courthouse that morning still made her chest ache faintly.
She'd expected Vincent to refuse the divorce, but hearing him say it himself still left her unable to understand it.
Once we're divorced, won't he finally be free to be with Sabrina openly?
So what exactly is he thinking?
No matter how long they'd been together, Scarlett had never truly understood him.
Feeling mentally exhausted, she closed her eyes and drifted into a short nap.
When she woke later that afternoon, the sunlight was pouring warmly into the room. Scarlett slowly got out of bed and walked over to the balcony before settling into the chair outside.
Feeling bored, she casually picked up the novel Damian had left for her.
At first she didn't think much of it, but the more she read, the more absorbed she became.
Without realizing it, the clock had already passed four in the afternoon.
Scarlett still didn't feel very hungry, so she only ate a little fruit.
Another hour passed, and evening slowly settled over Rivergate.
Not long after the sky darkened, headlights swept across the front of the villa.
Scarlett lowered her gaze toward the driveway and immediately recognized Damian's car.
After parking, Damian opened the trunk, grabbed several bags, and headed inside.
A few moments later, Scarlett heard quick footsteps approaching from the hallway.
Soon the bedroom door opened, and Damian walked in briskly while apologizing at the same time. "Sorry, I got back later than I wanted to."
He carried everything over to the small table by the balcony and started unpacking the bags one by one.
Inside were grilled steak skewers, hot coffee, warm garlic bread, loaded fries, and desserts.
Seeing the table suddenly covered with food, Scarlett closed her novel and smiled at him. "What's all this for?"
Damian slid a straw into the coffee before handing it to her. "I couldn't make it back to have lunch with you earlier, so I brought you all this instead."
Scarlett accepted the drink, the corners of her lips lifting slightly. "I'm okay. Honestly, I wasn't even hungry yet."
