Scarlett turned toward the doorway, surprise filling her eyes.

Damian stood there looking completely exhausted. His clothes were disheveled, faint stubble covered his jaw, and the second he saw Scarlett sitting there safe and unharmed, his eyes turned red without warning.

Scarlett stared at him helplessly. "Damian... what are you doing here?"

Damian walked straight over to her without answering. Then he bent slightly and demanded in a low voice, "Why'd you disappear on me? Why didn't you tell me where you were going?"

Scarlett instinctively stepped backward until the backs of her legs hit the hospital bed, leaving her nowhere else to retreat.

Looking up at him, she explained softly, "Something urgent came up, and I forgot."

Damian couldn't actually bring himself to blame her, but his eyes were still visibly red as he reached out and gently lifted her chin.

"Don't ever do that again," he said quietly. "No matter what happens, you tell me where you are. If I can't find you like tonight, I'll turn all of Rivergate upside down looking for you."

Scarlett stared at him blankly, completely forgetting Nolan was still behind her.

"I know," she whispered.

Even her voice trembled.

The next second, Damian suddenly pulled her tightly into his arms. He looked at her seriously. "You gave me your word. Don't back out on me now."

He held her so firmly that Scarlett couldn't push him away no matter how hard she tried. Eventually, she gave up struggling and could only answer softly, "Okay."

Only after hearing that did Damian loosen his grip slightly.

"Good."

As he spoke, he reached over and lightly brushed the tip of her nose with his finger.

Because Nolan was still in the room watching everything happen, Scarlett felt unbearably awkward. She shot Damian a glare.

Damian clearly understood what she meant, yet he still deliberately glanced toward Nolan before saying, "You told me you were coming to see Thomas. Turns out you came here to see another guy."

The jealousy in his tone was impossible to miss.

Afraid he would continue and disturb Nolan's rest, Scarlett immediately tugged on Damian's sleeve. "Okay, stop."

Only then did Damian finally stay quiet.

After a brief pause, Nolan let out a soft laugh.

"Since Damian's here now, you should go home with him."

Scarlett immediately turned back toward Nolan. "Nolan, I'm not leaving. I already promised the doctor I'd stay tonight and take care of you."

Nolan deliberately looked away instead of at her.

"Go home," he said firmly. "I don't need you taking care of me."

Scarlett knew he was only saying that on purpose, so she wasn't upset.

Turning back toward Damian, she said softly, "You should head home first. I'm staying at the hospital tonight."

Damian looked directly into her eyes. Even though he clearly hated seeing her care this much about another man, he still said, "Then I'll stay here with you."
