Without another word, Vincent yanked open the car door at the curb, slid into the driver's seat, and sped off the second the engine turned over.
Daniel stood there watching the taillights disappear into the distance, his eyes glossy with tears and full of bitter unwillingness.
His mind kept drifting back to that night.
Back to the moment he had pinned Sabrina against the entryway wall, kissing her slowly and deeply before easing her clothes off one piece at a time. He had taken her hand and guided it against the heat of him, his breathing rough and scorching against her skin. Every place his lips touched felt like it was catching fire, and when he leaned close to her ear, his voice had turned low and pleading.
"Sabrina... stay with me, okay?"
That night, Sabrina had gone completely soft in his arms, her body pressed against his as though she might melt into him. She never pushed him away. Instead, she let his hands wander over her skin while quietly feeling the pull that came from him, something undeniably masculine and dangerously tempting.
Even after spending years beside Vincent and constantly being surrounded by men, she had always remained loyal to him. She had never crossed that line with anyone else.
But she was still a normal woman.
How could she possibly have no desires at all?
That night, every feeling she had buried finally surged to the surface. The warmth of his touch soothed something deep inside her, and before she realized it, she had wrapped her arms around Daniel's neck, kissing his lips and the side of his throat while whispering hoarsely against his skin, "Daniel... I want you."
The instant those words left her mouth, Daniel's mind went completely blank.
A jolt rushed through his entire body.
He stopped fighting himself after that.
Lifting Sabrina into his arms, he kissed her fiercely as he carried her toward the bedroom.
By the time they reached the bed, the tension between them had already spiraled completely out of control. Daniel laid her gently against the mattress and pulled her into his arms before quietly asking, "Sabrina... who am I?"
Her eyes were dazed and unfocused as she stared up at his face.
"Daniel."
Hearing her say his name correctly made something inside him snap completely. He kissed her harder, his hands moving as he slowly stripped the rest of her clothes away.
Under the soft bedroom light, her skin looked smooth and luminous, and wave after wave of happiness crashed through him at the sight of her.
He straightened long enough to pull off his own clothes too.
But when he leaned down toward her again, Sabrina suddenly turned her face away.
Daniel immediately noticed the hesitation, and his brows tightened slightly.
"Sabrina... what's wrong?"
Sabrina instinctively pulled her arms across herself, shielding her body before grabbing the blanket and wrapping it tightly around herself.
"You're Vincent's friend," she said quietly. "And I'm Vincent's woman. We really shouldn't keep doing this."
After saying that, she turned onto her side and curled herself deeper beneath the blanket.
Daniel's entire body was still burning with desire, but faced with her reluctance, he no longer knew what to do.
In the end, he got out of bed and slowly dressed himself piece by piece before looking toward the figure hidden beneath the blanket.
