Chapter 79 A Showdown

“No need. I’ll find my own company,” Damian retorted without a moment’s hesitation.

“Of course, Mr. Langley. But if you change your mind, just say the word. Those girls you described last time -the ‘sexy’, ‘cute’, and ‘innocent’ ones-are all available tonight.”

Damian shot the server a withering look. “When did I ever use those words to describe anyone?”

The server’s eyes flickered nervously toward Scarlett before returning to Damian. “You’re absolutely right, Mr. Langley. My mistake. You never said anything of the sort.”

Damian declared, puffing out his chest slightly, “Exactly. A man of unwavering loyalty like me is a rare find in all of Rivergate.”

The server offered a few strained, awkward laughs before hastily retreating.

Worried that Scarlett might have believed the server’s implications, Damian hurried to explain himself, “Sweetheart, don’t pay any attention to the gossip people spread about me. You should judge me based on your own experiences. Get to know the real me, and you’ll see I’m a man capable of profound, devoted love.”

Scarlett tilted her face up to look at him, her expression remaining largely impassive, offering no clue to her thoughts.

Seeing her utter indifference, Damian let out a defeated sigh. “Fine, whatever. Sooner or later, you’ll come to appreciate my exceptional qualities.”

With that declaration, Damian slung a proprietary arm around Scarlett’s shoulders and guided her deeper into the pulsating heart of the bar.

They came to a stop before a private room. Without any preamble, Damian delivered a sharp kick that sent the door flying open with a loud bang.

The moment the door crashed against the wall, all conversation inside ceased, and every head turned toward the entrance.

Scarlett’s eyes quickly scanned the scene. Vincent was seated centrally on a large, plush sofa, flanked by a few associates. Daniel and Harris were positioned closest to him.

Both Daniel and Harris had scantily clad women nestled against them-beautiful, provocatively dressed companions who seemed to be spilling out of their outfits as they lounged familiarly against the men.

Under the weight of the stunned silence, Damian swaggered into the room, pulling Scarlett along with him. He marched directly up to the low table in the center. With a look of pure defiance in his eyes, he swept his arm across its surface, sending an array of bottles and glasses flying to the floor in a cacophony of shattering glass and splashing liquor.

The violent sound of breaking glass was jarring enough to make everyone’s hair stand on end.

Damian then produced a silk scarf from seemingly nowhere and meticulously spread it over the now- cleared table. He shoved the heavy table aside with surprising strength and gently, yet firmly, pushed Scarlett down to sit upon it.

Seated now, Scarlett faced Vincent and his companions directly. She could see with perfect clarity that Vincent’s face showed not a flicker of emotion. He looked utterly composed, completely unfazed by the dramatic intrusion.

Daniel, in stark contrast, looked absolutely livid, his expression thunderous enough to bite nails. Harris merely frowned deeply, his displeasure evident.

The two women accompanying Daniel and Harris looked thoroughly frightened. They hastily tugged at their revealing necklines and watched Damian with wide, wary eyes.

“Alright, sweetheart,” Damian announced, his tone deceptively casual though his expression was menacing. “If you have something to say, ask him right here, right now. I’m standing guard today. If anyone dares to interrupt you, they’ll have to answer to me first.”

His icy gaze swept over everyone seated on the opposite sofa, his dominating presence making the very air feel thick and heavy.

Vincent remained completely unresponsive. He merely lifted his eyes to look at Damian, and despite the fact that he was the one looking up from a seated position, he somehow managed to project an aura of being utterly untouchable.

Scarlett’s gaze also swept over him, and she was mildly surprised to see he was alone, without a female companion. The reason quickly became apparent-he was likely preserving his fidelity for Sabrina.

Daniel shot to his feet, his face flushed with anger. “Damian! Just who the hell do you think you are, bursting in here and causing a scene like this?”

Damian raised a single, mocking eyebrow, his sharp gaze locking onto Daniel. “Yeah, I’m causing a scene. What exactly are you going to do about it?”

Daniel was left speechless, sputtering with rage. He began aggressively rolling up his sleeves, ready for a physical confrontation, but Harris quickly grabbed his arm. “Daniel, don’t be an idiot. Think before you act.”

Daniel was about to call Harris a coward, but before he could get the words out, Vincent’s calm, authoritative voice cut through the tension. “Everyone, leave. Now.”

Harris promptly hauled a still-protesting Daniel out of the room, followed quickly by the two frightened women. This left only Scarlett, Vincent, and Damian in the suddenly vast and silent space.

Scarlett turned her head, tilting it slightly toward Damian in a clear, unspoken signal for him to leave as well.

Damian was visibly reluctant. He plopped down right beside her on the silk-covered table. “No way. I’m not comfortable leaving you here alone with him.”

Scarlett’s eyes held a stubborn, unwavering resolve. Seeing this, Damian finally capitulated. He stood up and said, “Alright, fine. I’ll wait right outside the door. If you need anything-anything-just call my name.”

“Mmm. Thank you,” Scarlett replied quietly.

Damian bent down, his long, elegantly shaped fingers gently brushing a stray lock of hair from her face and tucking it behind her ear. His voice dropped, laced with a mixture of jest and something unexpectedly sincere. “We’re practically family now, so drop the formalities. If I had to lay down my life for you, I’d

consider it a worthy trade.”

Scarlett was long accustomed to Damian’s theatrical declarations. She didn’t take his words to heart.

Once Damian had exited, closing the door softly behind him, the room plunged into a profound silence

once more.

Scarlett looked at Vincent. He showed no inclination to initiate conversation, simply sitting there in stoic

silence.

Neither of them spoke. The quiet in the room felt thick, heavy, and intensely strange.

But since securing a moment alone with him was such a rare opportunity, Scarlett decided to break the stifling silence. “Vincent, can we talk?” she began.

She wasn’t attempting to humble herself; she simply wanted to test the waters, to see if he was even willing to engage in a dialogue.

If not, she saw no point in wasting her breath or her time.

Vincent finally glanced at Scarlett, his expression unreadably calm. After a long, deliberate pause, he asked, “What is it you wish to discuss?”

Scarlett decided to waste no time with pleasantries. She got straight to the heart of the matter. “Was it you who orchestrated the professional difficulties Nathan and Violet are currently facing?”

Vincent didn’t bother with denial or evasion. “Yes,” he confirmed flatly. “It was me.”
