In the nightmare, Madison watched that tall figure charge into the sea of fire without a backward glance. No matter how she cried and shouted, it was useless. She felt as if she had fallen apart completely.
"Sam, come back! Come back…"
Just as despair overwhelmed her, Sam's voice rang in her ear. "Maddie, don't cry. I'm Sam. I'm right here."
The voice gradually got closer from afar.
Madison slowly opened her eyes, meeting Sam's worried gaze. She suddenly threw herself into his arms and choked up, sobbing. "Sam, thank goodness! You're still alive."
Sam stiffened at her hug, then frowned.
What did she mean by "You're still alive?" Did he die in Madison's dream?
Before he could think further, the softness sensation in his arms disappeared.
He looked down and saw Madison gazing up at him with teary eyes. She urgently said, "Sam, promise me that no matter what happens to me in the future, you must put your own safety first! Even if I die, it doesn't matter. You must live."
Frowning, Sam scolded lightly, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
But Madison clutched his arm, stubbornly pressing for an answer. "I'm not talking nonsense. Sam, promise me!"
Confronted with Madison's stubborn gaze, Sam had no choice but to give in. "Alright, I promise you."
Madison immediately breathed a sigh of relief and let go of him.
Sam, however, lifted his hand and gently wiped the tear streaks from her face with his finger. "Now, can you tell me what just happened? Why did you want me to make that kind of promise? Hm?"
The last syllable came deep from his throat. It sounded low and magnetic, carrying a hint of temptation.
Madison thought for a moment and gave a half-truth. "It's probably the day's thoughts creeping into my dreams. I keep feeling that Johnny and Kaitlyn will hurt me.
"In the dream, they kidnapped me, then lured you to an abandoned factory and set it on fire. You didn't make it out. After you died, they locked me up and tortured me."
After hearing this, a trace of helplessness flashed in Sam's eyes. He didn't understand why Madison would have such a dream.
