Chapter 10 Stupid George
Only then did Layla realize how perfect her spot was.
The mountains already had plenty of food. Now she had access to seafood and salt.
She brought four chickens back to the cave, tied one hen’s legs to keep her alive, and cleaned the others, hanging them to dry.
Then, carrying a bamboo tube of water, she transformed into her beast form and flew toward the coast.
She planned to try making salt from seawater. If she could reliably produce decent-quality salt, she could start preserving all kinds of food.
To make the bamboo tubes easier to carry, she drilled holes and strung them together with thin vines, hanging them from her body.
When the wind blew, the cups clinked together. It was a pleasant sound.
At the foot of the mountain lay the sea. Waves crashed relentlessly against the rocks, leaving dark stains on their surface.
A flash of silver rose and fell on the water like a shooting star.
Layla had died in a tsunami that swallowed everything. Just looking at the sea made her dizzy. She couldn’t tell what that “star” was.
But that “star” could clearly see the blue sky, the green mountains, and the streak of pink against the deep sea.
“How did Layla end up here?” the silver mermaid pulled up his comment projection and asked his fans, “Did she find out I’m here and come to hassle me again? Ugh, so annoying.”
[Don’t worry. She’s not. I checked her stream. She’s camping in the mountains, saw the sea from up there, and came to check it out.]
[Even if she is here to bother you, don’t worry. Just stay in the water. She can’t do anything.]
[You can’t stay in the water forever! Stella already has two males in her cabin. If you don’t get over there soon, there won’t be a spot left for you!]
[Layla barely reads the comments. If you don’t provoke her, she’ll leave soon. Wait, where are you going?]
[Don’t go, come back!]
George’s fans watched him swim toward Layla, speechless.
Other males might be innocent in their troubles, but George’s provocative nature contributed greatly to his situations.
Layla wandered along the shore before settling on a large rock.
If she was going to rely on the sea for salt, she needed to overcome her fear.
Just as she was psyching herself up, a wave splashed her, soaking her and sending a chill through her.
She turned to see a silver merman breaking the surface, grinning smugly. “Layla, dare to roll your eyes at me again?”
So childish.
Layla stared at George, slowly rolling her eyes, dramatically.
George said, “You actually did it?”
Irritably, she replied, “What else was I supposed to do?”
My clothes are all soaked, and you still want me to put on a smile for you!
As she spoke, she backed away cautiously, afraid that an angry George would splash her again.
George ground his teeth. “Come here and let me splash you, or else…”
“No way,” Layla retorted, stepping back. “If you want revenge, come up here yourself!”
She kept her eyes locked on him. If he even tried to climb onto the rock, she’d take off into the sky. Let him try to reach her then.
“Aren’t you afraid I’ll hate you?” George snapped in frustration.
Layla found it amusing. “When have you ever not hated me? If jumping in to swim would make you my mate, I’d do it right now!”
“Can’t you be a bit more dignified?” George was at a loss.
In anger, he slapped the water with his tail, creating a spray.
