Chapter 123 I Just Hate Seeing You Cry

Underwater, George made an air bubble to hide them for the time being.

The pink spoonbill had passed out the second she hit the water.

The pika that rolled into the sea earlier had almost drowned too.

The merman had an injured tail and could barely swim.

And Liam, who looked fine but was totally dazed from the fall.

Only Liam and George were awake.

“How’s your wound?” Liam hurried over to George.

George was their only hope right now. If his injury messed up his water powers and the air bubble broke, they’d all drown.

“I’m not dead yet,” George said, pale-faced. He tilted his chin up, acting arrogant like usual. “I’m a noble merman beastkin. A little water control is nothing!”

But in reality, the air bubble was only just big enough for everyone. Liam even had to wrap Shane tight to make him fit.

“Can you wake them up?” George asked. “We have to move. All this blood will draw big sea monsters over here.”

Liam snapped out of his daze at that, instantly panicking. He reached out and patted Layla’s cheek first.

Layla hadn’t swallowed much water. George had pulled her into the bubble right after she fell. She was unconscious from the heavy lash of his tail.

When she woke up, her whole body ached. It was pain from the fight, plus the soreness from where George had struck her.

Her first move was to look for Shane. She crawled over, her eyes watering. “Shane!”

The snake’s body didn’t scare her anymore. More than anything, she was scared Shane would never wake

She held the snake, but her hands were shaking. She tried patting him awake a few times, but couldn’t bring herself to do it hard.

“Let me!” Liam saw her hesitating and gently took Shane from her.

Layla’s eyes watered again, and she reached to take him back, but stopped when she saw how carefully Liam i held him.

Liam wasn’t rough at all. He was actually really gentle.

The big snake shifted a little. Before he was even fully awake, his weak, stubborn voice came out. “Layla…

“I’m here!” Layla’rushed over, knelt down, and took Shane back from Liam. “Shane, I’m here Are you awake? Can you hear me?”

“Don’t cry…” Shane’s voice was weak. He slowly shifted back into human form.

“Don’t cry,” Shane said, in obvious pain himself, yet acting like he forgot all about his own injury.

Layla felt a little embarrassed for crying. She huffed, putting on a stubborn act, “What? I look ugly when I cry?”

“You’re still pretty,” Shane said, pulling her into a hug. “I just hate seeing you cry.”

“Do you two really have to flirt right now?” Liam cut in, annoyed.

Shane looked up and glared at him, but his tone wasn’t cold. “How are you? Hurt?”

Liam was holding the tiny pika, shaking it lightly. “We’re fine. You’re the one with the worst injury.”

Shane relaxed a little at that, then looked at George.
