Chapter 124 His Only Chance
Life was more important than a leg. Besides, they couldn’t drag George and Liam down with them.
“I’ll carry you,” Layla said, crouching down in front of Shane.
Shane gave a helpless smile and pulled her back up. “I’m not that fragile.”
Layla didn’t buy it. She couldn’t stand the thought of him walking in pain. “I can carry you.”
“I know, my Layla is the strongest,” Shane said, messing up her hair. “But you don’t have to. Your mate isn’t that weak.”
He rested an arm over her shoulders. “Just help me walk.”
“Hey! Do you two not see me standing right here?” Liam snapped. He strode over and crouched down in front of Shane. “I’m right here. Why does a female have to do all the heavy work?”
What kind of male would that make him?
But Shane pushed him away too. “You carry George instead. I heal way faster than him.”
As he said it, Shane shot Layla a smug look.
George had nothing to say. He had no idea what Shane was even proud of.
“I don’t need to be carried,” George said, dead set on not losing to Shane. He had to save his pride.
Shane didn’t spare his ego. “Your injury messes up your water control.”
George went quiet.
Shane was right.
His powers really would be weakened from the wound.
Liam realized this too, and hesitated.
But Shane was the key person he was supposed to protect on this mission. Without Shane, the whole mission could fail.
He was still hoping to find Starcore Ore.
He had no idea how to recognize Starcore Ore. He could only rely on Shane.
The higher-ups had promised that if he found the ore, his unit would be the first to get equipped with it.
Military ranks in the Empire were passed down through families. After his father died in battle, Liam inherited his rank, making him the Empire’s youngest general.
But the officials used his young age and inexperience as an excuse to transfer him to the logistics corps.
No logistics unit had ever been sent into combat before.

Chapter 174 His Only Chance
A general who couldn’t go to the frontlines… was he even a real general?
It was nothing but a title. Liam had no real power in the imperial military at all.
The soldiers under him thought they’d never see real fighting, so they slacked off on training and resented his strict rules.
All ten imperial generals knew how dangerous Planet A13 was. Of course, he knew.
He had no other choice. This was his only chance to prove himself.
His father was known as the Blood Ravager, a brilliant, fearless warrior who enemies feared greatly. How could he let his father’s name go to waste?
He couldn’t mess up this mission.
Shane saw Liam stuck in his own head.
Without even looking at him, Shane turned to George. “Stop being stubborn. Let Liam carry you. If you waste all your energy, we all die here.”
The words were for George, but they were really meant to snap Liam out of it.
Liam’s expression cleared up right away.
That was right! He’d been wrong. He’d been so focused on keeping Shane safe that he forgot their entire survival depended on George right now.
George softened a little at Shane’s words, no longer so resistant.
“If my life is that important, then fine, Liam can carry me.”
Liam was already crouching down for him.
Then he realized George’s fish tail made it really hard to carry him normally.
If George shifted into human, his water powers would get weaker.
They just stared at each other, stuck with no idea what to do.
Finally, Layla noticed how quiet they’d gone and figured out their problem.
“If you can’t carry him on your back, just hold him,” Layla suggested simply.
George’s face turned bright red.
Just the thought of Liam holding him like that made him awkward.
“There’s no other option right now.”
Liam pulled the pika out of his pocket and handed him to George so Yates wouldn’t get crushed. Then, before George could react, Liam bent down and picked him up in a bridal carry.

George instinctively wrapped his arms around Liam’s neck, and the pika slipped right out of his grasp.
Layla couldn’t hold back her laugh. She bent down, picked up the pika, and put him in Shane’s pocket
