Chapter 131 Shane’s Poison Is Kicking In
Liam was tempted to snap at George.
What even is the point of being mad at me?
If George wasn’t so stubborn and prideful, if he’d just been honest with Layla, she’d treat him so much more warmly now.
She might not have romantic feelings for him, but she’d at least be kinder.
Wasn’t it George himself who refused to use favors to cling to her, who didn’t want her mixing up gratitude for affection?
So this isn’t my fault at all.
With that thought, Liam lifted his head and shot George a glare. His gaze then drifted to Layla, still staring softly at Shane. For some reason, the sight got on his nerves too.
“Hey, you two, cut out all that lovesick mushy stuff already,” Liam snapped irritably. He patted the spot beside him. “Come rest. We’ve got a tough fight ahead of us.”
Shane shifted back into his beast form, coiled up tight, and wrapped himself around Layla.
Liam found this even more annoying.
George, on the other hand, thought it was way better. Layla curled up in Shane’s coils was far less overbearing than her clinging onto him directly.
“Hey! I’m hurt too, y’know. A little concern would be nice,” George called out.
Layla glanced over at him. “From now on, all the jerky is free. Eat as much as you want.”
A sharp twinge hit George’s chest.
Is that really all I am to you?
Irritated, he huffed, “Took you long enough to get some sense.”
Shane tightened his coils slightly, flicked his injured tail toward Layla. “Layla, it hurts.”
George thought Shane was absolutely shameless.
All Layla felt was soft pity. She leaned down and gently blew on his wounded tail. “It’s okay, it’ll heal soon. The pain will fade.”
George scoffed inwardly.
So overly dramatic!
He turned toward Liam, who’d already closed his eyes, choosing not to watch the whole display.
Meanwhile, Yates stared at Layla and Shane with wide, awestruck eyes, utterly captivated by their dynamic.

Chapter 131 Shane’s Poison Is Kicking In
The half hour passed quickly. George’s wound had stopped bleeding, but it still looked terrible.
Liam stood up and glanced at him. “Want me to carry you?”
“Save your strength. If that beast up top is still in fighting shape when we surface, I’m not bailing you out.”
He really didn’t want to walk. But who knew what waited for them above?
If the Quetzalcoatlus still wasn’t weakened fully, and Liam wore himself out carrying him, how would they fight?
Right now, only Liam and Layla were capable fighters. He couldn’t afford to drain another ally.
Liam picked up on his worry at once. “Fine, swim on your own then. Maybe you’ll wear that tail of yours right out.”
George glared. “Shut up. Where’d you get such a sharp tongue all of a sudden?”
It was only their shared ordeal that kept George from snapping something even cruder.
For all his irritation, Liam still walked over to steady him. “You gonna be alright?”
“Do I have a choice? General Hartwell gave the order. Who am I to argue?”
His sarcasm was identical to that of the insolent soldiers under Liam’s command. Yet for once, Liam didn’t lose his temper. “Enough chatter.”
And George actually went quiet.
Layla had planned on helping Shane, but watching how smoothly his snake form moved through water reminded her for all he looked like a King Cobra, he also had sea snake blood in his lineage.
Yates shifted back into his pika form, and Layla tucked him safely into her pocket.
The group set off just like before. George used his water abilities to keep an air bubble around them as they rose toward the surface.
They moved steadily, and in under ten minutes, they were only three feet underwater.
They could hear the wind above. Glancing up, they saw the Quetzalcoatlus’ sky-blocking wings still circling overhead. Its flight had slowed noticeably, and its massive body was wavering mid-air.
“It’s feeling the venom. Shane’s poison is kicking in,” Liam observed.
Shane glanced toward him. “Yates helped too.”
Liam nodded, not denying it. Every little bit counted; none of it was pointless.
