Beast Love Show: All For Her (by Sylvester Raven) novel Chapter 147

Chapter 147 Family?

Of course, Liam wasn’t usually this obedient!

What’s up with him today?

“You’re upset,” Layla said, not even asking a question.

Liam’s knife paused on the meat, then sliced down harder. “Who says?”

“You sent the Vanguard away. No need to act anymore.”

Liam dropped the act at once, looking a little hurt. “Shane told you about the Starcore Oye?”

“He did.”

“Do you think we can find it?” Liam asked.

“We?” Layla was a little surprised.

Liam was equally caught off guard by her reaction. “What? He didn’t tell you?”

“He never mentioned you two were working together.” From how they always clashed, Layla had never guessed they were on the same side.

“It sure doesn’t look like it, does it?” Liam said, sounding even more bitter. “The higher-ups ordered me to assist him, but he never does any of the work.”

“Why doesn’t he do his part?” Layla asked.

Liam grew frustrated. “Aren’t you supposed to blame him? For slacking off, for dragging his feet on the mission, for not taking any of this seriously?”

“Why would I blame him? Even if he wasn’t Prof. Slater, he’s my future mate, my family. Why would I fault my own person because of what some outsider says?”

Liam went quiet for a moment. For some reason, even with her explanation, it only made him angrier.

Family?

She already considers Shane family.

And I thought…

I thought Shane forced her. That she only agreed because she had no other choice.

He knew Shane. The guy was cold, distant, and nothing ever seemed to matter to him.

But the marks on Layla’s neck made everything painfully clear. Shane’s detachment was only because he’d

never met someone who could break his rules.

Now he had. Not only would he bend every rule for her, he’d grown fiercely possessive.

It suddenly clicked for Liam why everyone got along fine with Stella, yet Shane got so defensive towar Layla, and even let George misunderstand on purpose.

It was because he liked her. Shane had fallen for Layla.

When one cared about someone, one wanted them all to oneself.

As for Stella… none of them had truly loved her. Staying with her, being her mates, was just duty. A mission to complete.

Jealousy only hurt when one cared deeply for someone.

“You like him that much?” Liam asked.

Enough to call him family?

Family…

When was the last time anyone called me family?

After his father died, he’d been alone, struggling just to get by. He’d chosen Stella, given himself over entirely, only to keep going.

But Stella had played all five of them. She acted fond of everyone, yet never truly favored anyone.

Stella had never once spoken of family.

Why does Shane get to hear that word from her so easily?

“Yeah,” Layla said. She’d lit the other stove and was putting the meat Liam had cut into the pot to render fat.

“Why?”

“Because it’s him.”

“What if one day you find out he hurt you?”

Layla stopped what she was doing and looked up at him. “What has he done to hurt me?”

Liam’s gaze drifted to her neck, to all those faint scattered marks.

He drugged you. Knocked you out. Left those marks on you. He tricked everyone into thinking you slept together.

Isn’t that enough?

Liam knew it wouldn’t be. Even if he said it all out loud, Layla wouldn’t care.

“I’m just saying what if,” he said, frustration making him chop harder.

“Then let that ‘what if’ come and tell me itself.”

Liam scoffed, “That’s a dumb answer.”

“He would never hurt me.”

“You trust him that completely?”

Layla looked up, serious. “Trust is everything between two people. Doubt is where cracks start.”

Liam understood, yet a sharp twinge of resentment still lingered.

Why does nobody trust me like that?

He fell silent, finished slicing the meat quickly, and tossed the knife down on the counter. “I’m going outside for a bit.”

“Okay.”
