Chapter 150 She Lied to You

“Do you hit Shane like that too?” George asked.

“Why would I hit Shane?” Layla shot back.

George didn’t want to answer. He pouted for a second, then asked, “What about Liam? Do you hit Liam?”

“Liam didn’t do anything wrong. Why would I hit him?”

George went quiet, but his eyes lit up.

She doesn’t hit Shane, and she doesn’t hit Liam. Only him!

Does that mean I’m a little special to her?

With that thought, he felt a little better.

“You still haven’t told me,” Layla pressed. “What started the fight with Caleb?”

“I was walking past Hanna’s cabin and saw him hitting her. What kind of guy hits a girl?”

[He’s right! A guy’s hands are for conquering the world, not hitting girls!]

[George is spot-on. What kind of male hits a female?]

[Gotta say, even if George is annoying, his morals are solid.]

[His sharp tongue is his thing, but his principles are on point. He’s safe-you’ll just get yelled at until you cry.]

[You Winges, do you have some weird kink? It’s fine, just admit it. This era’s pretty accepting, no need to be shy.]

[We don’t have a humiliation kink! We’re normal!]

[But c’mon, when George stands there, glancing down like he doesn’t care? It’s chef’s kiss.]

[You totally have a kink! You Winges are crazy!]

[That’s them! Not me! I’m just a fan of George’s music!]

Layla had been so worried about George earlier that she hadn’t checked if Hanna was hurt.

Now that she thought about it, Hanna’s face had been a little red, and her hair was messy. She’d thought it was from running.

“Why’d you come?” George asked.

“Hanna said you and Caleb were fighting, and she asked me to come.”

“She said we were fighting?” George raised an eyebrow.

Chapter 150 She Lied to You

That Hanna!

“She lied to you.”

“George, are you lying to me? I saw it with my own eyes,” Layla said, pointing at Caleb, who was struggling in the water, trying to swim further out before coming ashore. “He’s still in there.”

George was amazing at lying with a straight face. Even caught red-handed, he didn’t even blink.

“Of course she lied! It wasn’t a fight. I was beating Caleb’s ass!” George announced, lifting his chin proudly

[What’s the difference?]

[It’s about guy pride.]

[A “fight” means it was even. A “beating” means George totally overpowered him. He’s showing off.] /

Layla scoffed, “Well, the beating’s over. Can you pull him out now?”

“I never said he couldn’t come up,” George said, looking totally innocent.

Layla couldn’t help but laugh at his shamelessness. “You’re not exactly giving him a chance, are you?”

Caleb had swum out about a quarter-mile, planning to circle around and avoid George. But George wasn’t done. He followed along the shore, and just as Caleb was about to climb out, he kicked him back into the

water.

Caleb flew back from the kick, swallowing a bunch of seawater. He was starting to look out of it.

“That’s enough. If you actually kill him, you’ll be in deep trouble,” Layla said, grabbing George’s wrist.

That warm, tingly shock shot through him again. George stirred up a wave, slamming it over Caleb’s head.

“George!” Layla warned.

George huffed but let Layla pull him back a couple of steps. He didn’t stop messing around, though. “Let go,” he ordered.

Only then did Layla realize how awkward their position was. She’d promised Shane just yesterday that she wouldn’t catch feelings for George.

She let go without thinking and stepped back. The spot on her palm that had touched his wrist felt like it was burning, leaving her flustered.

The warm, tingly feeling on his wrist was gone, and George found it even harder to stay calm. But he’d been the one to tell her to let go. Asking her to hold on again would make him look pathetic.

Annoyed, he pushed up his sleeve to cover the spot Layla had touched, rubbing it a couple of times. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He stirred up another wave, slamming it down on Caleb.

Layla sighed.
