Chapter 158 Hard Earned Freedom

[Fuck! Why can’t my hand reach through the screen? I really want to kill him!]

[Caleb isn’t wrong, though. Hanna’s so plain, what’s so great about her? Of course, the scout only noticed her because she slept with him.]

[Even with that, there’s no guarantee he’d like her. Who knows what dirty games she played? She must be pretty loose.]

[How disgusting can you be? All you see is a female’s body. Hanna is strong, brave, hardworking, and diligent. You can’t see any of that, just her figure. Disgusting!]

[That’s how the world works. If she were truly innocent, could she thrive in the entertainment industry? You girls are just too naive.]

[I’m so jealous of Caleb, getting to sleep with a big star. Do you think she’s been his plaything since she was a kid? He’s probably worn her out, right?]

Hanna never imagined Caleb could say such things.

In her four years in the industry, plenty of people had hinted at that kind of proposition.

If she had given in just once, her opportunities would be much better than now.

But her heart belonged only to Caleb. She never gave in. She couldn’t sell herself for resources.

As a fellow female, Layla was so angry she could barely breathe. She picked up a clay cup from the table and was about to throw it at Caleb.

Yates grabbed Layla’s hand and took the cup away. “Layla, Prof. Slater worked hard to fire this cup. Don’t waste it.”

Layla froze, then turned to look at Yates. Though he was trying to calm her, his face was even darker.

He looked around the table but didn’t find anything useful. Finally, he grabbed two pieces of wood about 1.5 feet long from beside the stove. He handed one to Layla and offered the other to Hanna. “Hanna, do you want one?”

“Yes!” Hanna took the wood, then snatched the one from Layla’s hand as well. “I’ll do it myself!”

Before she finished speaking, she charged at Caleb.

‘Caleb used to hit and curse Hanna freely. He never imagined she would dare fight back.

By the time Hanna had already hit him twice with the sticks, he finally reacted.

“You bitch! You dare hit me!” He lunged at her.

Hanna had suffered from him for too many years. Instinctively, she flinched and stepped back.

“Don’t be afraid.” Blaze’s arm stopped behind her waist, careful not to actually touch her.

His other hand grabbed Caleb by the scruff of his neck, yanked him back, and kicked him in the knee, sending him to the ground. “Hit!”

Hanna didn’t hesitate. She swung the stick and brought it down on Caleb.

After about ten minutes, Hanna was flushed, her eyes red, panting, sweat beading on her forehead. When she dropped the stick, tears fell as well.

[Hanna’s hardships finally pay off!]

Layla came to Hanna’s side and gently pulled her into an embrace. “You’re doing great.”

Hanna had only been crying silently, but the moment Layla held her, she couldn’t hold back anymore. She wrapped her arms around Layla’s waist and burst out wailing.

“Layla, I’m sorry!”

“It’s okay, it’s not your fault. You did great! Really, you’re incredible. You’ve come this far under such circumstances. No one here could have done better.”

Even raised by someone like Caleb, her kindness never faded. Even in the chaotic entertainment industry, she stayed uncorrupted. She was already a good person.

“I’m sorry.”

“You don’t need to say sorry. You didn’t do anything wrong. Don’t apologize for others’ mistakes, and don’t punish yourself for them.”

That statement stunned Hanna for a moment.

Ever since she was little, whenever Caleb was unhappy, he would hit her, curse her, tell her she was useless.

He had raised her, and she believed no one else would love or want her if she left.

When Caleb did something wrong or offended someone, he made her go and apologize.

She had long been used to cleaning up his messes.

This was the first time anyone told her she didn’t have to apologize for someone else’s wrongs.

“Just let it all out,” Layla said, patting her shoulder. “Cry out the pain from the past. From now on, only good days will remain. You deserve the best.”
