Chapter 171 The Water Buffalo Ruse

With that thought, Shane stopped walking and broke into a run.

On the way, he couldn’t help thinking that the Starcore Ore lead might be fake, but surely the could be real.

All this way just for the two of them to haul a water buffalo back. Lian might be crazy

When he finally arrived, he stood there dumbstruck.

Because what lay before him was not one water buffalo. It was an entire herd.

Shane stared wide-eyed at Liam, standing in a pile of water buffalo carcasses, drenched in blood from bead to toe. “What did you do? Commit genocide?”

Liam’s eyes still held a red gleam. The military knife in his hand had gone slightly dull at the edge. He w panting heavily. At the sound behind him. he tightened his grip on the knife.

He turned and stared at Shane for a long moment before slowly coming back to himself. He let out a breach and lowered the blade.

**What took you so long?”

Shane just stood there.

“Wait, weren’t you watching me? Didn’t you know when I arrived?”

“Lalmost died. Couldn’t you have come faster?”

“What do you mean?” Shane strode forward and grabbed Liam, looking him over. “Are you hurt? Is this your

blood?”

“No. It’s not mine.” Liam dropped to the ground. His knife clattered beside him. ‘I almost died. Shane. You almost got me killed.”

Shane, utterly confused, crouched down beside him. “Can you walk? Want me to carry you back”

“No need. If you really want to help, carry them back instead.”

Shane followed the direction of Liam’s pointing finger. The dozen-plus water buffalo carcasses. His vision went dark.

“That many? All by myself?”

“I killed them all. Can’t you carry them back?”

“I can’t!” When it was time to fold, he folded. He was an honest man. If he couldn’t do it, he couldn’t do it. No posturing.

“You have to.” Liam fixed him with a stubborn stare.

“Why?”

“No reason.” Liam glanced at the Vanguard behind him. “Shane, you’re a male. A male never says I can’t Say н again, on live broadcast. Can you do it or not!”

“I can…” Shane had been about to say he couldn’t, when it suddenly hit him. Liam’s stubbornness wasn’t about these water buffalo carcasses at all. It was about something on them. “Fine. I’ll help you get them back!”

“That’s more like it.” Liam stretched out a hand toward Shane. “Give me a hand. I can’t stand up.”

Twelve water buffalo in total. Liam lashed them together with vines, laid some logs underneath as rollers. and finally got them linked into a train.

“Seriously, you should’ve told me there were this many.”

“I didn’t know there’d be this many either. It was just two at first. I figured I’d take them down, and when you showed up, we’d haul them back together. Who knew killing the young ones would bring the old ones? Nearly bled me dry.”

Shane called home again.

. This time, Blaze answered. The moment the call connected, Liam launched into a frantic stream of chatter.

“Get over here, fast! Bring more people. We’re dying out here. We seriously can’t haul this back.”

“Can’t haul it back? How much is it, exactly?” Blaze found Liam’s tone genuinely curious.

He’d always assumed Empire generals were titans of strength. Today had once again reshaped his understanding.

Shane knew Liam loved to exaggerate. This time, he wasn’t exaggerating at all. He took the Vanguard and kept it brief. “Twelve. Very heavy. All of you come.”

Even with everyone from home coming, hauling all this back in one trip was going to be a challenge.

Blaze was so stunned by the number that he went silent for a long while. Until Liam’s voice crackled again. “Hey! You hear me? Hurry up! I’m about to collapse!”

Blaze replied, “I… I hear you…”

Wait! Isn’t General Hartwell a deer?

How did he take down twelve buffalo alone and still sound energetic?

Had the world changed somehow?

When had everyone leveled up?

Up until now, Blaze had assumed “Empire General” was just a medal. Sure, they could fight, but modern warfare wasn’t all brute force. It took brains and strategy.

He’d always pegged Liam as the brains type, but never imagined he was all about raw power.

‘Come on! Don’t just stand there! You’re gonna kill us both waiting! Head east, don’t veer off course. Run
