Beast Love Show: All For Her (by Sylvester Raven) novel Chapter 172

Chapter 172 A Debt of Honor

[Seriously, your Logistics Department has disgraced General Hartwell. With his skills, he should be in a combat unit, not stuck in Logistics. Isn’t that a waste of talent?]

[Well… it’s not that simple.]

[Got it. Backroom politics. With his father gone, General Hartwell has no one to protect him. But Empire generalships are hereditary. They can’t just strip him of the title. And they don’t want to give him real power. So they shove him in Logistics.]

[Knowing too much can get you killed. Some things are better left unsaid.]

[Agreed. Those in the know understand.]

Layla had come along too. She genuinely wanted to see what the hell Liam had done.

Yates was left at home to watch the place. Nearly every able body had been mobilized.

Even the three males from Emily’s cabin had been called back to help.

Avery was nowhere to be found.

So it was Blaze, Seren, Layla, and the three from Emily’s cabin, six people in total.

By the time they found the two of them, Liam was groaning with exhaustion and demanding Shane carry him on his back.

If not for all these water buffalo, Shane might have carried him a ways. With this many carcasses, forget carrying Liam, Shane could barely move his own legs.

Along the way, Shane asked repeatedly, “Do we really have to bring them all back?”

“Absolutely!” Every single time, Liam answered with unwavering conviction.

[Prof. Slater, just indulge him this once. He nearly got himself killed hauling all this back.]

[I thought you said it was just “a smudge on his clothes”?]

[Anyone else would’ve been a goner out there.]

“Fine.” Shane resigned himself to his fate and put his back into it.

For the second half of the trek, Layla and the others took over. Twelve water buffalo were still a staggering amount for them, but with some effort, they managed to get the haul home.

“Later, turn all this meat into jerky and split it among everyone,” Liam said.

Exhausted, Layla felt like cursing but held back when she saw Liam covered in blood. “Alright.”

Everyone had worked hard, after all.

“Save one for me. I want to butcher it,” Liam added.

Layla shot him a surprised look. “You know how to do that?”

“I’m an Empire General!” Liam glared, asserting he’d learned it.

He was a professional.

Layla said nothing more and simply nodded assent.

Whether it was saving him one head or giving him all of them, she had no objections.

Before, she’d worried about not having enough food. Now she worried about having too much. These twelve enormous water buffalo, just butchering them was going to take forever.

“I can ask Emily to come help,” Jacob offered.

“I’ll check with Hanna,” Blaze said.

“Alright, anyone who can come, bring them.” After saying this, Layla turned. “Speaking of which, what have Talia and her cabin been up to lately? I haven’t seen them in days.”

. “They said the grass here ran out. They headed further south to find more. A lot of her cabin are grazers,”

Seren explained.

Layla nodded. “As long as they haven’t run into danger.”

Looking at Liam drenched in blood, Layla fully grasped what the production team had meant at the start when he said the virtual protection would be withdrawn after three months.

Outside that shield, the planet held real dangers after all.

But she wasn’t afraid. If anything, she felt a restless thrill.

Liam claimed he only wanted one water buffalo for dissection. In reality, he handled nearly the entire butchering process himself. Layla and Shane assisted at his side.

With so much to process, they moved the worktable out into the courtyard.

The others kept busy building the wall and a firewood shed.

The scene was too bloody, so they moved the Vanguard away.

At least, that was how Liam put it.

[Killing all those water buffalo wasn’t too bloody, but now you’re saying it’s too bloody? General Hartwell, you’re something else!]

[I don’t want to leave! I want to watch Liam dissect a buffalo!]

Despite the live chat’s loud protests, the back-end staff, upon receiving Liam’s threatening glare, moved the Vanguard away nonetheless.

Blaze grabbed the Vanguard and headed out. “Let’s go see what Hanna is up to.”
