Chapter 188 A Cry for Help
Layla suddenly understood. He’d thought she was changing, which was why he’d retreated in such a fluster
“I’m not changing. You can come in.” She hopped down from the heated platform, her shirt already smoothed back into place.
The hop was a motion she’d done a thousand times with effortless ease. But today, for some reason, he thighs went weak the instant she landed. She nearly collapsed.
“Mm…”
The soft sound of distress had barely escaped her lips before Shane was through the door. In two long strides, he was at her side, catching her as she stumbled and pulling her securely into his arms. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I’m fine.” Layla shook her head. “My legs just went numb from sitting too long.”
She didn’t want to admit she’d gained weight, so she offered a flimsy excuse.
But the little gasp she let out just now was a bit misleading.
Especially among the netizens in the live chat, they were savvy.
[What did you do? How long did it last? You two definitely got up to no good last night while we were away!]
[They really did it! I heard Layla complaining just now! They definitely did it!]
[It was last night! Layla just said they did it for too long and her legs are weak!]
[Given our relationship, if you won’t even let me watch the live stream, who else are you showing this to? Huh! Speak up!]
[Prof. Slater doesn’t seem like it, usually so aloof and reserved, but right now he’s actually wild? Layla can’t even stand straight.]
[Honestly, it’s just average. Layla can still get out of bed. I thought she wouldn’t be able to get out of bed today.]
Layla couldn’t see the live chat right now. Otherwise, she would definitely have cursed them out. Their imaginations really were wild.
Shane helped her sit back down on the heated platform, lifted both her legs onto his lap, and began gently massaging them.
“What do you need to do today?” Layla asked.
Shane’s expression was perfectly composed as he worked on her legs. “Seren and Avery are building their house today. Seren said he wants a set of tableware. I’ll fire those for him today. You’ll probably need to go supervise. When they can’t figure things out, you can give pointers.”
“I don’t get it. None of them can cook. Why are they all so dead set on having tableware?” Layla pouted and reached down, pressing her hand over Shane’s fingers.

His fingers seemed to carry some strange magic. The massage, instead of soothing the ache, only made her legs feel even weaker and tingly.
“Stop that. It’s making me weaker.”
“Oh?” Shane raised an eyebrow but obediently withdrew his hands.
“We’re still cooking at our place today. But Liam still hasn’t sent over any game yet. I’ll track him down an a
bit.”
“Do it now.” Layla pushed his hands aside and stood. The friction of the fabric rubbing against her inner thighs sent a prickling, ticklish ache through her skin.
No one else had a kitchen yet. They couldn’t cook anywhere else anyway.
Since Liam planned to move out of Stella’s place, it probably wouldn’t be long before he needed to start building too.
They’d need to prepare extra materials.
Shane wrapped an arm around Layla and beckoned the Vanguard closer.
The Vanguard obediently drifted toward them.
“Contact Liam’s Vanguard.”
The communication system on the Vanguard automatically dialed Liam’s comm.
But after a long, drawn-out wait, there was no response from Liam.
“Liam? Liam?”
Shane called out twice, but got no response.
“Liam? Say something. Can you hear us?”
The only reply was the howling of the wind.
“What’s going on?” Layla looked at Shane, confused.
In a manner of speaking, Liam was actually a chatterbox. He couldn’t stand going long without talking.
Especially now, when he was at odds with Shane, he practically lunged at every chance to snipe back at him.
And he wasn’t a man without a sense of propriety.
Layla turned and gestured for her own Vanguard.
Through the Vanguard, she could watch other people’s live streams.
But she didn’t even need to find Liam’s feed.
The moment she pulled up the Vanguard, she saw the live chat in absolute chaos.
