Chapter 21 Liam Appears

[“I’m never applying to Crownpeak University again!” This is ridiculous. Do they think it’s their personal playground? Even if they wanted to go, they wouldn’t get in!]
[Are Stella’s fans really over ten? Do they think getting into Crownpeak University is as easy as acing kindergarten?]
[Can Stella rein in her fans? I used to like her, but she has become more problematic with age!]
The uproar was so significant that Crownpeak University thought Shane had committed a serious offense, prompting a thorough investigation that uncovered it was all a hoax by her fan base.
Eric Nichols, the university president and a major general, was furious upon learning the truth.
He said, “The entertainment industry needs a cleanup.”
The academic dean wiped his forehead, his expression fierce. “Exactly. If this keeps up, who knows what they’ll stir up next.”
Eric said, “The female Shane’s been staying with is quite impressive. Not like those delicate types. She’s capable, tough. Doesn’t look formally trained, but she fights like she’s done it before. If Shane actually ends up with her, that would be a fine match.”
The dean said, “I wouldn’t count on it. You know Shane. A female once confessed to him, and he asked her to explain the psychological and biological basis for her feelings. It’s best not to waste her time.”
Back on Planet A13, Shane had no idea about the storm brewing in his name. He was crouched next to Layla, waiting for his share of wolf stew.
“Any plans later?” he asked.
Layla shook her head and served him a bowl. “Do whatever you need to. You don’t have to tag along with me.”
“I’m heading out. Back by night.” Shane took a sip, then shook his head. “Not as good as the chicken soup.”
This is why you don’t spoil people. Look at him getting picky already.
When he first arrived, just getting a full meal was a luxury.
She grunted in acknowledgment, squatting on a rock to eat her meal.
Shane glanced at the log set aside, then added, “I’ll make the table and chairs when I get back.”

Charles 21 Liam Appears

“Sure.” Layla wasn’t particularly attached to the idea of furniture. The rocks were comfortable enough.

But it would get colder, and sitting on damp stone wouldn’t be ideal. A proper table and chairs would be nice.
She didn’t inquire about his plans, nor did he share. He simply asked, “Can I take some jerky?”
“Help yourself.” Layla got up, washed her bowl, and walked away.
She planned to collect seawater and distill some fresh water.
She wondered if it would snow on Planet A13. If it did, sourcing water would be easier, but life would grow tougher.
She could feel the temperature dropping. As winter set in, food would become scarcer. She needed to stockpile before the snow came.
Salt would be necessary too.
Distilling seawater would yield some crude salt. It was impure, but usable in small amounts.
Shortly after Layla left, Shane finished his meal, packed a small pouch of jerky, and headed in the opposite direction, eating as he walked.
Layla reached the shore. Looking at the sea, she couldn’t help thinking about George. The disgust on her face was unmistakable.
[Layla must be thinking of George. Look at her disdainful expression! Who’d dare say she’s attached to him?]
[She’s just playing hard to get. You actually believe that? She’s read too many novels. She thinks if she acts indifferent, he’ll fall for her.]
[Oh, so you’re her inner voice now?]
[Is someone coming? I think I see someone.]
[Who? Let me see! Why hiding?]
Layla, pouring seawater into a clay jar, spun around at the figure on the beach, annoyed.
Why can’t I escape the female lead’s man?
“Are you lost too?” she asked coldly, stepping back.
Liam raised an eyebrow and approached her. “Are you avoiding me? Afraid?”
