Chapter 22 The Biggest Clay Pot Broke
Layla stared at the male before her, a chill settling in her heart.

Without him, the former Layla would never have considered reclaiming what was rightfully hers. She would’ve lived a peaceful life as the legitimate heiress of the Grant family, supported by a fortune granted out of guilt or familial duty.
Liam, knowing full well how the former Layla felt about him, had watched like a spectator, pushing her step by step toward ruin.
“Everyone says so. Isn’t that true?” Layla shot back.
She wasn’t afraid of him.
In a straight physical fight, he might have the advantage.
But here on Planet A13, he had no long-range weapons. She was a sky beastman. She could stay out of his reach.
The odds were in her favor. She just didn’t want to entangle herself with the female lead’s men.
Having read melodramatic novels before the apocalypse, she knew that those involved with protagonists, especially someone cast as the villain, often faced dire consequences.
Avoiding the male and female leads would ensure her happiness.
A flicker of danger appeared in Liam’s deer-like eyes, quickly fading as he resumed his innocent façade.
He stepped closer. “You want to push me away? You said you liked me, that I was the only one for you as long as we were together.”
Layla frowned. “I was blind back then.”
He asked, “And now?”
“I’m cured!” she declared, carrying a pot of seawater as she turned to leave.
As they passed, Liam grabbed her wrist. “Is it because of Shane? Do you like him now?”
In his memory, Layla had interacted with all five of them to some extent.
But Shane was the one she’d had the least contact with. She wasn’t unwilling. She simply hadn’t had the chance. Shane was cold and distant. Even Stella hadn’t gotten that close to him.
Layla yanked her hand away and slapped Liam.

Chapter 22 The Biggest Clay Pot Broke
Liam hopped back onto another rock.
They stood facing each other across the gap.
[The air thickened with tension. Are they really going to fight?]
[Layla is insane. General Hartwell just said a few words, and she tried to hit him?]
[Who’s the insane one here? Use your brain. She clearly doesn’t want him near her. That’s harassment.]
[But it’s General Hartwell! Who wouldn’t want him? And he said she used to chase him!]
[And she said she’s over it. Anyone with eyes can see she’s avoiding him.]

[Playing hard to get again. It’s the only trick she’s got. She’s pathetic. Keep pretending, Layla. Let’s see how long you can keep it up.]
A fight was about to break out, but just as everyone thought the two were about to come to blows, Liam suddenly smiled. “You seem like a different person. Why is that?”
Layla looked away, attempting to leave.
“Did I say you could go?” He flicked a pebble with his toe and kicked it toward Layla with a twist of his ankle.
Ready for him, Layla spun away and darted toward the cliff.
“Splash!”
Water sprayed from her hand, soaking half her pants.
Liam hadn’t aimed at her but at the clay pot she carried.
This was the largest pot. Shane had spent half the night shaping it and gotten up early to fire it.
And Liam had just smashed a hole in it.
Layla’s eyes filled with rage as she transformed into her beast form, charging at Liam.
[General Hartwell is such a jerk. I’m rooting for Layla!]
[Me too.]
[It’s a survival show! No one said you can’t mess with people. She couldn’t protect her stuff, that’s on her.]
[She’s useless and dared to provoke General Hartwell. Serves her right!]
