Chapter 210 Why He Had to Live

“Because you didn’t deserve to die.” Shane said.

Dying on the battlefield means you were outmatched. But if you die because of the regime’s schemes that would be my failure. I can’t just stand by and watch you die.”

“How is that your failure? What does it have to do with you?” Liam asked, confused.

Shane smiled. “Layla recruited you. If you die, we lose a valuable asset.”

“Oh.” Liam’s voice went flat. “So that’s it. I thought you just didn’t want me to die.”

“Stop daydreaming.” Shane strode forward. “Where did you come down from?”

“I fell off the mountaintop,” Liam replied. “Earlier, after I killed those few lions, I ran into the whole pride They were insane, chasing me no matter what I did. I even climbed a tree, but they wouldn’t leave, sitting beneath it and waiting. They almost climbed up to get me.”

Shane considered. Going up right now did seem unrealistic.

The cliff face was sheer and smooth. He’d try to climb and fall right back down. Liam couldn’t even manage the climb in the first place.

The only way to actually climb it would probably require some kind of supernatural strength,

“What about letting Layla try flying up?”

“Absolutely not!” Shane replied firmly. “Layla might be a sky beastkin, but she’s a female. We have no idea if that energy is harmful to living bodies.

“Even if it’s harmless, paralysis, even briefly, would be dangerous. She might lose her balance and faй.”

Shane couldn’t let Layla take such risks.

“Fine. Leave it for now. When this planet belongs to Layla, we’ll study it then.”
