Chapter 216 The Threat That Anchored Him

He sheathed his knife and moved to the cavern entrance, monitoring the world beyond the waterfall with sharp vigilance.

“I’ll guard the entrance. You two watch inside. With energy fluctuations this violent, I wouldn’t bet against something being drawn here.”

Layla had no attention left for anything else. She looked down at the man in her arms. His breathing seemed to have steadied.

“Shane, listen to me.” She leaned close to his ear, her voice pitched so only he could hear, each word deliberate and clear. “You promised me. You’d watch me win Planet A13. You’d help me build the mecha factory. You said you’d make Liam and George call you ‘big brother’ from now on. If you dare to fall asleep now, I’ll… I’ll make Liam the leader, George second in command, and you’ll be at the very bottom.”

He showed no reaction, but Layla pressed on.

“Did you hear me? If you don’t wake up, I’ll find two more mates, make it five, and forget you completely. mean it.”

Her voice was quiet, carrying a tremor and a catch she didn’t even notice.

Deep within Shane’s consciousness, he floated in a silver ocean.

A deluge of chaotic information and torrential energy surged madly into his mental sea, trying to rip him to shreds.

It was the Starcore Essence’s accumulated memory and power, gathered over eons.

His awareness was a single leaf in a hurricane, about to be swamped at any moment.

Just as his consciousness was about to scatter, a familiar, stubborn voice pierced through the layered energy storm and reached him with impossible clarity.

“…make Liam the leader, George second in command, and you’ll be at the very bottom.”

“…find two more mates, make it five, and forget you completely.”

His awareness that had been on the verge of dissolving suddenly snapped taut.

Are you kidding me? Make Liam the leader? That idiot who needs my teaching?

Make George second in command? That all-talk peacock?

And find two more? No way! Absolutely not!

A surge of determination and sheer outrage exploded from the deepest core of his being.

Outside, Layla was still murmuring her threats, unaware that the violent, erratic energy signature around Shane was gradually steadying.

His scorching body temperature began to slowly drop.

“Layla, look!” George called out, startled delight in his voice. “He looks better!

Layla looked down immediately. Color was indeed returning to Shane’s face. His breathing had grown deep and even.

Her entire body went limp, strength draining away.

Liam hurried back at the sound and crouched to check him His voice was low. “Energy fluctuations have stabilized. He pulled through.”

The three exchanged a look. In each other’s eyes, they found the same overwhelming relief.

On Shane’s wrist, a thread of silver light flickered and faded. A silver mark sank silently beneath the skin

Outside the cavern, Planet A13’s night had fallen.

The sudden loss of Layla’s group’s live signal had ignited a firestorm.

The Grant family’s PR team and online trolls were active, spreading rumors that “Layla sabotaged Vanguard to avoid scrutiny” and “Layla staged her own disappearance.”

Shane’s condition had stabilized, but he still hadn’t woken.

The cavern’s atmosphere shifted from crisis to an agonizing, prolonged waiting.

“We can’t stay here forever.” Liam rose, surveying the cavern lit by the Starcore Essence’s glow. He was already rapidly assessing their situation. “Food and water are problems. And, with prolonged loss of contact. the outside world must be in chaos by now.”

George shot him a glare and snapped back without an ounce of courtesy. “So what’s your plan? Leave him here alone while we go hunt for food? And what if whatever you mentioned shows up and snacks on him while we’re gone?”

“I didn’t say leave him.” Liam’s brow furrowed. He couldn’t fathom why George’s brain always twisted his words into the worst possible interpretation.

“What I mean is, someone should scout for food and water, and find a way back to the surface. We can’t linger here.”

“I’ll go.” Layla volunteered, her voice hoarse.
