Having survived the apocalypse, there were few things Layla hated more than wasted resources.

Even a clay pot.

But more than that, she’d been holding in her anger since she arrived.

She’d tried to avoid Stella and her mates. But they kept coming after her.

Also, Stella’s fans kept pestering her.

She’d been surviving in the post-apocalyptic world for so long that she’d almost forgotten what it felt like to be cared for. Now, with someone finally showing concern, they dared insult her “stars.”

She wasn’t some delicate beastman female. She’d fought zombies. She’d starved when the world ran out of food.

A mere Liam was no match for her.

After being pushed back, Liam’s expression shifted. He hadn’t been taking her seriously.

He hadn’t exerted his full strength earlier, perceiving her attacks as playful and harmless, merely reflexively parrying.

His block had been instinct.

But even so, being pushed back by a female put him in a category that ninety percent of male beastmen couldn’t claim.

Layla had changed completely.

He wanted to test her.

Then his Vanguard beeped.

Layla’s next punch came.

He met it with his own and used the momentum to pull back.

Seeing that he was trying to run away, she went after him.

He shifted into his beast form and fled.

[General Hartwell just ran away?]

[He didn’t run. Didn’t you see his Vanguard go off? Someone was calling him. He can’t waste

Layla watched him flee but did not follow.

She opened her Vanguard, pulled up Liam’s stream, and watched the antlered deer leap through the forest. A flash of murderous intent ignited in her eyes. “Sooner or later, I’ll snap off your antlers.”

The comments paused for a beat.

[Her confidence is something I’ll never understand.]

[Does she have any idea who she’s talking to? He’s a general. If she touches him, the Empire will come down on her.]

[You never know. Maybe Liam would willingly hand over his antlers to Layla.]

Layla successfully used Vanguard to pinpoint Liam’s location.

The one who called him away was none other than Stella.

She said she needed to discuss something with him.

He obeyed without hesitation. When he disappeared into Stella’s hut, Layla closed the feed.

[Jealous? General Hartwell is so easily swayed by Stella’s words. Let’s see how you compete with that.]

A stone had cracked the clay pot, making it unusable for drawing water but fine for storage.

Layla held the pot while turning over stones by the water’s edge.

[Gathering seafood? Is there anything you can’t do?]

[I’m tired of saying it, but since you’re so amazing, I’ll say it again. Layla, you’re my goddess!]

Layla caught an octopus and, before it could latch onto her, slammed it into the pot.

The force made one wonder if she mistook the octopus for Liam or George.

[Don’t slam the crab like that! You’ll break their claws!]
