Chapter 225 Behind Layla
He just instinctively took a small step backward.
Placing himself entirely behind Layla. Putting his broad back completely at the disposal of the female before him, who looked so much more fragile than he was.
That posture was a silent declaration.
He, Liam, Empire General, stood only behind Layla.
“Boom!”
The live chat exploded at that moment.
[Holy crap! What did I just see! General Hartwell is hiding behind Layla! What is this loyal-guard-dog stance!]
[I’m dying! What a great twist! General, your character has collapsed! You were the Empire’s pride! How are you acting like a terrified little bride hiding from a villain!]
[You don’t get it! This is making a choice, taking a stand! His actions show he’s on Layla’s side, not Stella’s!]
[Stella must be seething! Just moments ago, she called him “Liam,” and now he’s hiding behind the woman she hates the most. Total gut punch!]
[Did anyone else notice General Hartwell’s sexy animal-print skirt? It matches Layla’s! I’m totally shipping them!]
In the camp, everyone was struck speechless by Liam’s action.
This was a hundred times more humiliating than a direct refusal.
Stella swayed, nearly unable to stay standing. Even the male supporting her could feel the rigid stiffness in her arm.
Layla stepped forward, deliberately placing herself to shield Liam behind her more securely.
She lifted her eyes to Stella’s face. A faint smile even lingered on her lips. It held not a shred of warmth.
“Thank you for your concern, Stella.
“However, my family tends to be shy around strangers.”
She paused, her gaze brushing across Stella’s pale face, and added, slow and deliberate, “Especially strangers with impure intentions.”
“My family!”
Everyone, including viewers across the Star Network, grasped the implications.
These weren’t friends, nor teammates.

Chapter 225 Behind Layla
This was a declaration of ownership!
Layla was openly acknowledging an extraordinary mate-bond between herself and these three top-tier males of the Empire.
“Wow!”
A collective gasp swept the camp.
George watched the scene playing out before him, the smile at the corner of his mouth threatening to spl
his ears.
He edged forward and deliberately said, pitched just loud enough, into the nearest Vanguard with a sneer. “Exactly. Everyone wants to get close to our family, but they should check themselves first.”
His words fanned the flames.
Stella’s complexion went from pale to ashen.
She stared fixedly at Layla, and those tear-filled eyes could no longer conceal the bone-deep hatred inside.
them.
Layla couldn’t have cared less.
She even had the leisure to tilt her head and glance at Shane, still leaning against Liam, still visibly weak.
Shane met her gaze, the corner of his mouth curving up slightly. Those always-accepting eyes were brimming with indulgence and approval.
They seemed to say, “Go ahead. Make it bigger. I’ve got you covered.”
This was exactly the effect Layla wanted.
She was going to make everyone understand that these three men were hers.
No one else could even think about them.
Especially the Grant family.
“Layla…”
Stella finally spoke, her voice hoarse.
She took a deep breath, swallowing her humiliation and anger, resuming her façade of vulnerability as her tears flowed even more freely.
“How could you say that to me? I was just worried about you.” She scanned the surrounding contestants for sympathy.
Her words garnered immediate support from some of the males.
“Yeah, Layla, that’s a bit harsh. Stella meant well.”
“You’ve been out of contact for so long; everyone was worried. Stella has cried several times already.”
