Chapter 228 We Deal the Cards
“When he sent us that message, he wasn’t helping us. He was making an investment. He needs us as his weapon against the Grant family, to test the military’s limits, and to stir chaos on Planet A13. The more confusion there is, the better for someone like him who thrives in turbulent situations.”
Shane paused before continuing, “So if we accept this olive branch, to him, that’s expected. If we don’t. he loses nothing. He’ll just think we’re a bunch of good-for-nothing losers.”
“Then we accept?” George crowded in again, face alight with anticipation. “And then screw him over hard
“No.”
The same cool word left Layla’s and Shane’s mouths at the same time.
They exchanged a glance and found a glimmer of unspoken understanding in each other’s eyes.
“We don’t accept.” Layla finished the thought for Shane.
She looked at the three men in the tent, speaking each word clearly. “We’ll be the house.”
Liam and George were shocked.
The house?
They were cornered beasts under siege from all sides, and by what means could they possibly run the
house?
Shane, however, seemed to understand her completely. He leaned against the hide, and on his pale face surfaced an expression of near-fanatical intensity, the look of a master designer who’d just glimpsed a paradigm-shattering creation.
“Exactly.” His voice was light, but it landed with absolute weight. “In our hands, we have what all of them want. We don’t need to passively accept anyone’s overtures.”
He looked at Layla, his eyes full of unconditional trust and support.
“What do you want to do?”
Layla didn’t answer immediately.
She turned and threw open the tent flap.
Outside, those visible and hidden gazes instantly converged. The Vanguards hovering nearby flickered their red recording lights with increased urgency.
Under the gaze of billions across the star network, Layla stepped out, as composed as if walking into her own backyard.
Liam, George, and Shane followed, silently taking their places behind her.
Layla walked directly up to the nearest Vanguard.

Chapter 228 We Deal the Cards
Everyone held their breath, wondering what this female, who had just “risen from the dead and stirred up a massive uproar, was planning to do next.
Layla looked at that cold lens as if looking straight through it at the countless greedy, calculating, curious eyes behind it.
And then, suddenly, she smiled.
“Prince Oliver.”
Her soft voice cut through the air, resonating clearly across the Star Network.
The network erupted!
She actually dared to publicly call out Prince Oliver!
[Has she lost her mind? She’s completely insane! How dare she call Prince Oliver out directly on livestream!]
[Oh my god! This is insane! She’s talking to the royal family in public?]
[The Grant family wants her dead, the royals want to recruit her, is she publicly choosing sides now?]
In her tent, Stella was staring fixedly at her screen.
Then Layla’s next sentence nearly crashed the star network’s servers entirely.
She spoke deliberately, emphasizing each word, “I’ve received your offer.”
She paused. “However…”
She let the pause hang, and into that brazen smile, she added undisguised ambition.
“Given the choice between someone else’s olive branch, I prefer to plant my own trees.
“I believe I have the ability to grow trees larger than the ones currently standing, with deeper roots and more luxuriant branches.”
After a tense silence, messages flooded the screen like rain.
[Wait, am I misunderstanding? Did Layla just refuse Prince Oliver?]
[Holy crap, she actually dared to refuse Prince Oliver. Won’t the Grant family just target her even harder now? This is insane!]
[But does anyone else not think Layla is incredibly cool right now? Oh my god, I think I’m falling for her!]
This was exactly the scene Layla had wanted to create.
She cleared her throat and continued, “Perhaps, you could provide something that interests us more and engage with us in a transaction.”
With that, Layla turned and walked back into the tent.

As for the star network’s servers, nearly paralyzed by the deluge of messages, that was not her problem
Stella watched Layla’s back, her hands clenched.
