Chapter 24 I’m Not Stella’s Fiancé

[Why would anyone be disillusioned? Different people have different skills. Look at Prof. Slater. At first, he couldn’t even catch a bitmon and knocked himself out.]
[A Crownpeak student here. Let’s not mention Prof. Slater’s embarrassing moments if we want to stay friends. But honestly, no one on Planet A13 is living as comfortably as Layla.]
After a hearty dinner, Layla was about to clean up when she heard a clucking sound.
She turned toward the pen. The hen was strutting around proudly, and when it noticed her looking, it glanced toward the nest.
Layla walked over. Inside the nest lay a single wild egg.
The eggshell was a little soft. It must have been because it was its first time laying an egg.
“Not bad,” she said, ruffling the hen on the head. “I won’t eat you yet. I’ll wait until you stop laying eggs.”
[I actually saw despair on a hen’s face.]
[That hen just got a lifetime job.]
Shane returned at that moment. He came back empty-handed and looked a little down.
Seeing the clay pot he’d used for cooking was empty, his expression darkened further.
Lowering his head, he looked at Layla, his eyes carrying an unmistakable hint of accusation.
Under his gaze, Layla felt a twinge of guilt.
She had genuinely forgotten about him while eating.
He was back now, and she remembered.
She had promised to keep him fed.
And she’d broken the pot he’d worked so hard to make.
The guilt deepened.
“Um, the hen laid an egg. Want me to make you an omelet?” she asked tentatively, holding it up.
The thought of a fragrant ramps omelet made Shane’s mouth water. His outrage weakened. “Just one?”
Layla continued, “I saved an eel just for you. Shall I grill it?”

[Don’t believe her! She’s lying!]
[I heard her say with my own ears, ‘I can’t finish this eel. I’ll save it for tomorrow. It wasn’t saved for you at all!]
Shane softened. “Okay.”
Wails echoed across the Crownpeak University campus.
[Prof. Slater, where’s your brain? Look at her! She’s lying to you!]
[How do we save our naive, innocent professor?]
[Layla, stop lying! He believes everything you say!]
“This clay pot is broken,” Layla said. Her eyes flickered, and she added, “You know Liam has always disliked me.”
She hesitated, then continued, “None of Stella’s fiancés like me.”
Shane, who had begun crafting tables and chairs, heard her words and let his gaze fall on the pot. “Did Liam do this?”
“Yes.” Layla nodded.
For a moment, his pupils narrowed, but then returned to normal. “I’ll make you a new one
tomorrow.”
That’s not the point.
She said, “Maybe they’re right. Maybe you should go to Stella. You’re her fiancé. Staying with me will only make things harder for you when you go back to her.”
Shane paused in his chopping. “What does this have to do with Stella?”
Layla replied, “Do you really know the show’s rules? This is a dating show.”
“I know,” Shane said. “But this is a livestream. I’m here because I partnered with you. If Stella misunderstands…”
He didn’t finish the sentence, but the implication was clear to everyone watching.
He had proposed the partnership on camera.
Once declared partners, his actions hadn’t crossed any boundaries.
If others misinterpreted, that was their issue.
