[I have to admit, Prof. Slater may be a klutz in everyday life, but he looks quite handsome when focused.]

[You don’t need to tell me that. That’s the only reason anyone chases after him. He’s got looks, he’s smart, and when he works, he’s completely absorbed. It’s his one saving grace.]

Layla’s gaze shifted to Shane, who was so devoted to crafting that it seemed he was not just working with wood, but with advanced machinery.

Shane showed his talent for manual labor by quickly finishing two chairs, pushing one to Layla. “Try it out.”

She sat down, then pointed to the small of her back. “A little support here would make it more comfortable.”

Shane whittled a piece of wood, attached it to the chair, and said, “Try again.”

[Stop trying! You’re in danger! Run!]

[What is going on? Is it this dangerous everywhere, or did Layla just pick a terrible spot?]

[Absolutely not! I’ve checked other streams. Aside from struggling to find food, no one else is dealing with anything like this. Layla’s spot is a war zone.]

[A war zone is putting it mildly. She’s going to get killed.]

As a fierce beast, Shane had reflexes equal to Layla’s.

They both turned toward the same direction at the same time.

The hen in the pen sensed the danger too. It clucked frantically, flapping its wings, trying to escape. But it couldn’t.

Layla snapped, “Shut up!”

The hen wilted instantly, crouching in the pen, covering its head with its wings, pretending to be invisible.

Layla didn’t care what it did, as long as it was quiet.

“Is it a lion?” Shane asked.

Wolves and lions usually didn’t share territory.

“Yes, but just one,” Layla replied, eyeing its golden fur. “A male. Judging by its size, it should feed us for a while.”

Hearing this, Shane felt reassured. “I’ll cover your back.”

[They’re not running? They’re actually going to fight it?]

[They’re already calculating how much fat they’ll render.]

[Layla is one thing, but Prof. Slater is supposed to be the rational one!]

[They know what they’re doing. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from watching Layla, it’s that she doesn’t take risks she can’t handle. Except at the beach.]

[A male hiding behind a female. Pathetic.]

[Stellights, do you ever stop? Layla said she wants to eat it. If Prof. Slater poisons it with his venom, it won’t be edible anymore.]

Layla’s eyes blazed with determination, not just towards the lion but also towards the unseen instigator behind the situation.

She wasn’t as naive as the viewers.

She had scouted the area before camp. No large predator signs were present, only small animal

tracks.

She had only been there a few days when a pack of wolves and then a lion appeared.

On the first day, she handled a lone wolf, and the pack came shortly after.

Using firecrackers was a shortcut, but she still managed to kill the wolf.

Someone was testing her, trying to drive her from the show without killing her.

The only person who would be bored yet enjoy the spectacle was Liam.

Nevertheless, she had no reason to refuse food delivered to her doorstep.

She grabbed her knife and charged at the lion.

[Oh my god. This is my first time seeing a lion up close. They’re huge!]

[I knew lions were big, but this is massive. Look at the size comparison! That front leg is thicker than Layla’s waist!]

[No wonder she said it would last a while. It really will.]
