Chapter 271 Made up Mind
He locked his gaze onto Layla’s face, his tone brimming with raw, unshakable sincerity. “I like you mone than anything. From the very first moment we met, you’ve been the only one I’ve ever loved.”
Teary glimmers rimmed Shane’s eyes, and Layla realized she’d pushed her little joke too far.
She patted his chest gently to soothe his flustered heart.
“I didn’t mean I thought you didn’t like me. I was only teasing. But why do you never get jealous at all?
Shane fell quiet for a moment, then nodded earnestly as he thought it through. “I do get jealous.”
Layla’s eyes widened in surprise. “You do? You seem perfectly fine with anyone drawing close to me.”
A faint, tender smile appeared on Shane’s face as he stared down at her.
“I can tell when you grow fond of them, too. If they’re someone you like. I’m happy to accept them by you side.
A quiet sigh escaped Layla inwardly.
Who wouldn’t adore such an endlessly thoughtful, considerate mate?
She wrapped her arms around Shane and held him tighter still.
For the time being. Layla resolved to let her tangled feelings for Carson unfold naturally.
If Carson chose to leave Stella and join their group willingly, she would welcome him without hesitation.
If he stayed by Stella’s side instead, she would feel no real sorrow over it.
As soon as Carson got back. Stella rushed out.
She threw herself straight into his arms, her voice trembling with sobs, eyes glistening with teary vulnerability.
“Thank goodness you’re safe! I was so terrified for you-1 nearly lost my mind with worry.”
Her performance made it clear she’d been putting on a worried act for a long while.
‘Carson’s hand lifted instinctively to brush the tears from her cheeks, yet he froze halfway
His arm dropped back to his side, and he gave her only a curt, distant nod.
I’m unharmed. There’s no need for you to fret.”
Stella had anticipated gentle comfort and soft reassurance, only to be met with cold indifference.
Discontent gnawed at her heart. “I’ve worried myself sick over you this entire time. Why are you being so cold to me? Don’t tell me there’s something going on between you and that bitch Layla?”
Carson’s brows furrowed sharply at her disrespectful tone toward Layla.
“You misunderstand her completely. She’s nothing like the person you make her out to be.”
Stella’s eyes flew wide as she barely held back a shrill scream of outrage.
“Why do you keep defending her? What exactly did the two of you do together down at the bottom of that cliff?”
As Carson watched Stella spiral into hysterics, a surge of weary irritation washed over him.
